((((momtothree))))!!!!
:)

He had a ROUGH night, but he’s doing remarkably better this afternoon.
Rimadyl, tramadol and antibiotics.

Eating and taking water well.

Actually walked a few times around the yard with little or no pain.

A good vet is such a blessing!

What is a Redbone Coonhound?

You know that picture of the three reddish hounds with buck "teef" floating around the 'net?...those are redbones and they look just like that...just teasing...no buck teeth.

Redbones get their name from the reddish color of their fur...a true redbone is only one color, and I would not really call it "red" like an Irish Setter red.

The color, the almost dainty feet and the typical hound ears identify the breed along with a rather melodic bark...they don't "bay" like some hounds.

Great noses but they are really scent/sight dogs.

My son in SC has a dog that was given to him. We don’t know the breed. Some kind of tri-color hound that loves to “tree” the squirrels. She’s small — about 40 lbs and very cute.

Hey! all hounds are cute. 8^)

Without seeing the dog I couldn't even begin to help identify it, sorry.

On second thought, those of us in the Southern US are so often accused of interbreeding and our dogs probably have the same reputation, I'll bet it's a Heinz Hound...8^)

No (Scottish) Collie? People don’t know what they’re missing. Loyal, extremely intelligent, beautiful, and wants to please—best breed I’ve ever had....

Plus my female sheds a lot less than my Black Lab ever did.

My in-laws used to have a German Shepherd/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Absolutely beautiful! They rescued her from a home where she had been horribly abused, and she was only a year old (and the first owners called her ‘Chainsaw’).

Desia went on to be a most faithful protector and fiercely loyal to my husband’s family for another 12 years before they had to have her put to sleep. It about killed my father-in-law and it is one of the few times I’ve seen my husband cry.

Now my in-laws have a 13 y.o. Black Lab that they have had since puppyhood named Cali, and I hate to think about it when she finally goes.

I just lost the sweetest, most gentle, easiest to work with Yellow Lab - He, Rusty, was just 5 months old. He was going to be a great dog. I am absolutely crushed!!

Oh Man! Only 5 months old? What happened, If you don't mind my asking?

My sympathies to you.

Sorry...I was trying to get the humor in my post out (103) that I forgot to give you a possible direction to go...if the colors are black, tan and white it could be a beagle mix (40lbs is a pretty big size for a beagle) but they have a very distinctive "voice" (and they bay at everything), you'd probably know.

What, no Vizsla?

Don't have one, but a friend of mine does, and she's a beautiful animal!

“This contest was fixed. Everyone knows Beagles should be #1”

I was thinking of getting a German Shepherd and a few days later Buddy the Beagle showed up in my yard with a bum leg and a great attitude. That was 10 years ago. He still has the bum leg but now he has an orthopedic pet bed and the best chow money can buy. He was my best friend until the fiancee’ came along. Two years ago my fiancee’ and I were thinking of getting a Jack Russell to go with Buddy. A few weeks later Coco the Chihuahua showed up abandoned in our neighborhood abandoned and just a pup. Now she is Buddy’s best friend and the cutest, smartest most loyal little companion in the world. There is no “best dog” only “your dog” I’m still thinking of getting a German Shepherd. Can’t wait to see what God sends our way next.

Well, we’re not sure. About 10 days prior to his being found dead I had bathed him with Sentry Pro flea/tick shampoo. Since I work away from home during my work week, and was not there in the days before his death, I can’t say whether there were any signs of distress. Unfortunately the people living in my home (daughter, her husband, and a daughter in law - temporarily while my son is going through pre-deployment training) do not pay much attention to the dogs other than to feed them and make sure they have water. Since none of the other dogs (two adults and two puppies) have shown any signs of problems, I’m led to believe that the shampoo might have been the cause. The other puppies have not been bathed with that shampoo. After he had died I read the label and discovered a warning not to use on dogs under 6 months of age. That means, if the shampoo caused his death, I am responsible. I’ve been sick to my stomach since he died.

Beagles can never be number one... that would be impossible considering that black and tan coonhounds are always number one:)

My daughter has a German Shepherd/Ridgeback. He is one of the sweetest dogs, but dumb as a brick. Chased a truck and caught it, which is why his nickname is Tripod. Loyal and protects the kids. He will let them lay all over him.
