American Idol: Jackson Family Offended By James Durbins Comments
American Idols resident rocker, James Durbin brought the house down on last weeks Elton John performance night as he danced around a stage filled with flames. After his performance he was asked by Ryan Seacrest if he was worried about dancing around the stage with all those flames in which James replied I have a lot of hairspray in my hair to keep it from jumping around so much so, the one thing I was worried about was having a Pepsi moment. The seemingly innocent comment by James was a joke about an on set accident in 1984 when Michael Jackson was badly burned during the shooting of a Pepsi commercial by some pyro effects gone wrong. The burns Michael Jackson suffered from the incident reportedly led to his addiction to pain medications and prescription drugs.
According to TMZ.com, Michael Jacksons family took offense to the comment by stating We were shocked to see this. Its nothing to make light of and everybody should be focusing on who was responsible for Michaels death. They also reported that Joe Jackson was left wondering why the comment was not cut out of the West Coast episode. James Durbin has since apologized via Twitter as he posted For anyone talking I said Pepsi NOT MJ! I have no disrespect for Michael. I grew up singing his art. I guess youll take it how you want it. Talking about MJs passing is too soon. Making a reference to an incident 25 years ago..not too soon. The stab was at Pepsi people.
I'll be happy to tell you. McPhee is co-starring in a pilot for NBC that's filming as I type. Debra Messing and Angelica Huston are also starring and Steven Spielberg is the executive producer.
She's been somewhat busier than your average 28-year-old.
To be fair, McPhee wanted to be an actress more than a singer. Good thing, too. When she mentioned that, she pretty much admitted she was on Idol to get exposure. She was in that move House Bunny, which was ok, not a total flop. Like Pia, the guys like to look at her.
Scotty stands out. He has the voice, a likeable personality and a country swagger and charm that’s very appealing. Just singing great doesn’t make a star. They have to have that extra somethin’ undefined but that people are drawn to. Scotty does that imho.
