Green River killer may face death penalty

A find in the last few days in Auburn, Washington opens up the possibility that Gary Ridgeway may be charged and face the death penalty.

The skeleton of a woman who disappeared in 1982 has been discovered and positively identified as 20 year old Becky Mererro, who disappeared from a Pacific Highway South motel room, an area heavily influenced by prostitution where Ridgeway picked up many of his victims.

Ridgeway entered a plea agreement with King County that he would not face the death penalty if he confessed and pled guilty to all the murders he committed. He ended up pleading guilty to 48 murders of young women.

But King County prosecutors have long suspected that he might have been involved in the disappearances of as many as 75 women. And while Ridgeway was interviewed and asked about Mererro, he never confessed to it or pled guilty of her murder.

King County prosecutors are reviewing the plea agreement and the evidence to decide whether or not to file charges.

Well, if anyone ever deserved to be put down like a mad dog, Ridgeway certainly qualifies. Doubt it will happen, though.

They can probably get a conviction but how much evidence could they possibly get against him after 28 years?

And is it really worth it to get a death sentence conviction on him? He will sit on death row for another 16 years before he is executed. He may die of natural causes first.

Just get rid of it. This thing is of no value what-so-ever to society, none.

Get rid of the death penalty? That is the goal of every slimeball lawyer making a buck off misery. That goal is the reason it takes so long to execute a criminal. The lawyers make huge amounts of capital from their efforts to bleed the system dry. If they would just let the guilty die and quit giving away their time in death penalty cases, there would be more justice.

It would be great if they could make another case.

The, he could be hanged. Yes, hanged.

WA still has a gallows option.

Actually, I think they did away with it in Olympia.

Or it goes like this, they cannot use it against you, but you can request it if you like.
