Note to all...I don't even have a cell (tossed it in the can years ago). But this app (if it performs as promised) is unbelievable.

Must see video!

I don’t know if this is vaporware, or even if there is enough CPU in an iPhone to do it (probably would be in some Androids), but it is technically doable.

Hm, so it’s an integrated OCR -> Dictionary -> Translator -> Font-redisplay application.

I’ll be much more impressed when it does Arabic, Chinese [traditional], Japanese, and Korean as well.

The thing that freaks me is that this is just the start. Eventually there will be full time translation of all languages.

If the Tower of Babel was a p!sser for our Lord...what will He think of this? This technology reverses His earlier separation of human chat into different tongues.

That’s why I said I’d be more impressed if it could do Arabic (read right to left), Traditional Chinese (read top to bottom and a MASSIVE number of characters), and Japanese (read top-to-bottom w/ secondary-movement right-to-left OR left-to-right w/ minor-movement top-to-bottom.)

Plus, those three languages have vastly different roots than English.

Well, if this is just a start...the things that would impress you (and me) are just around the corner.

I trained my Dragon Natural about 10 years ago...that freaked me out. This is just a natural progression.

Robots are coming soon!;-)

Look ahead 20 years.

I just installed the free version. It’s interesting and seems to work....I’m not going to buy it though so, I haven’t seen the translator at work.

This technology is a point on a continuum...nearer the beginning, not at all near the end. Use your imagination...Look forward.

Your comment is like a review of the model T which beatches that it isn't like a 2010 Porsche.

This is a start.

That was my first thought. My second was that this technology circumvents God's judgment on the Tower of Babel.

If He was p!ssed then...He won't be happy about this.

It is not surprising in these END TIMES.

The interesting thing about the comment at the time of the Tower of Babel . . .

was that unless the lanugages were confused, mankind would be rather unlimited in what he discovered.

This time, The Great Tribulation, satanic AC world government followed by Armageddon will interfer!

However, they are certainly pushing the boundaries as far and as fast as they can.

As a linguist and involved with machine (computer) translation at its beta workable inception (early 1970’s with computers the size of large desks but no longer needing temepature controlled environments) I have seen various gadgets including a hand held for the military which did audio to audio in several languages for battle field use.

Please note how brief the translation texts are in the video and in fact serve as “dictionary” text translations.

Not that impressive.

Translations require algorithms dealing with grammar in various languages - which are not the same in any of them. Even Google translate requires enormous human editing and cannot recognize names.

One case was the name in Persian which was a combination of the words “child” and “player” - came back as Mr. Pedophile!

Huge progress since 1970 but a long way from an accurate capability without fairly heavy human editing.

Thx for your comment. I am not sure that I understand all the Babylon actions of Him...but He was definitely angry about something that was going on.

Thinking it probably had something to do with humans listening to the voices of the Fallen Angels...and their reaching for the continual input (of said fallen angels) into human experience.

That story is found in Genesis 11:1-9, and appears in the King James Version as follows:
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children built. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

There are several questions/observations which arise from a straightforward reading:
1) When God says "Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." who is the 'us' plural; is it literary, is it "God and His angles", is it God-as-the-Christian-trinity?
2) God says "and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." which is, when you think about it, a VERY intriguing and VERY powerful statement ESPECIALLY coming from an omnipotent and omniscient being.
3) This language-scattering is, to some degree, commanded to Christians to be overcome: Matthew 28:16-20 (NIV)
The Great Commission
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

And if you want to break out Revelation there's something in there about the time when the devil is bound for a thousand years that, IIRC (I'm going from memory here), mentions something about humanity being free from deception during that time.

As a guess (from experience as a new Android phone user) this is NOT being done on the phone.
