FYI for those who want a keyboard: Brookstone [I think] has a black iPad case [which looks a lot like Apple’s] that has a built in Bluetooth keyboard.

They were distributed at our firm for all the marketing people when they got their iPads.

Apple's sales are up 2% year over year (3rd quarter). And that is with total market sales increasing. They may be peaking.

They are???? WHERE DID YOU GET THAT????

I don't know where you get your figures, but the audited results for the 3rd calendar quarter (Apple's 4th fiscal quarter) show that Mac sales were up 27% year over year not your false 2%.

Over all Apple sales were up 66% year over year for the third calendar quarter of 2010 $20.34 Billion this year's quarter compared to $12.21 Billion last year ... I don't think that is peaking.

Perhaps you were thinking of Apple Corps, the Beatles' old company?

I’m not a big fan of pads/slates/tabs, and am not impressed by the Windows Phone rollout, but the slideout keyboard sounds like a huge improvement over the iPad.

Why? It't then a netbook with a flat screen layout... very unusable to my way of thinking. Hard to see, hard to use. The user would have to find a flat surface to lay it on and then hunch over it to see and type on it. Uh uh. Not for me.

Without the keyboard, the iPad or any other slate will mainly be a cool toy, for viewing content.

You obviously are speaking as someone who simply has not used an iPad... I have been using one for six months. I do not find what you claim is a negative to be one.

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to... Strawberry Fields... Nothing is real... And nothing to get hung about...

Well, [cough] you do have me there. Here's what I meant: Win7 is the first release of Windows that I would put in the same class as any of the OS-X releases in terms of stability and security. Not quite equal yet, but catching up.

Geez.

I'm reminded of Orwell's vision of citizens constantly spying on each other, of children turning in their parents for saying things against Big Brother...

Apple's sales are up 2% year over year (3rd quarter). And that is with total market sales increasing. They may be peaking.

Third quarter results: Revenue up 61%; Net profit up 77%; Mac unit sales up 33%; iPhone unit sales up 61%. But iPod sales dropped 8%, so you're right, Apple is clearly doomed.

Apple's fiscal year begins in September. Assuming you meant the 3rd calendar quarter, Apple's 4th, the numbers are: Revenue up 66%; profit up 83%; Mac unit sales up 27%; iPhone unit sales up 91%.

Windows XP Tablet Edition launched in 2002. They’ve been trying to sell tablets for eight years. I wonder what changed?

This is the purest example yet of Microsoft needing Apple to show them how it’s done.

And if someone really wants that, they make folio cases for iPads that integrate a keyboard.

I remember reading about Jobs having a meeting with Obama a few weeks ago. I’d bet that’s what it was about.
