By the way, ‘Gattaca’ needs to be on that list.

I love it. Nowhere near as good as the book but it’s one of those movies that’s just sooo visual, it sucks you in. Especially in HD.

Some great films here but I'm sorry,
2001: A Space Oddyssey is self indulgent, boring and unwatchable. Groundbreaking technically, interesting and thought provoking story, but how long can you watch a ship slowly, ever so slowly, descending, slowly, still descending, slowly, still waiting....
Unless the message was that space was a boring place where nothing much happened most of the time and things moved very slowly. In which case it was awesome.

Really. The singer was amazing. I kind of thought it was impossible. I thought they used overdubs and studio enhancements. Incredible.
She was probably the best part of the film.
The chick stewardesses on the ship were pretty hot too.

Starship Troopers has its place. But not on a list of "50 Greatest Science-Fiction Movies of All Time".
To: Tijeras_Slim
I was cycling down the listing thinking, where the hell is Blade Runner....

The first segment of 2001: A Space Odyssey ("The Dawn of Man") was fantastic. The best part of the film, imo. And the last segment ("Jupiter and Beyond") was extremely strange/psychedelic, but enjoyble. ...especially if one had previously read the book and understood what was taking place. Much in the middle part of the film, however, was indeed very slow. A good half hour could be edited out of there.
To: Mr. Mojo
I heard the movie was very disappointing. Anyone like itI did.
Rugged, macho guys running around outer space, having lots of promiscous sex with nekkid, good-looking ladies, and blowing up stuff with hand-held nukes. What's not to like?
I heard that it didn't have much to do with the book, though. I've not read it yet, it's on my list (along with a million others).

Yeah, that was a good one, too! LOL!!!

Also, the theater release (narrated) version of Blade Runner was better than the recent "director's cut" version, in my opinion. In any event, it's ranked #1? Great movie, but no. No way.
read the book. that's about the only way the director's cut is really, really good.

Any list that omits this classic is immediately suspect.
To: timeflies
Fifth Element should definitely make the list somewhere.

Lots of pure crap on this list, and they are missing a number of good films. Zero credibility in my mind. Amen.

Starship Troopers has its place. But not on a list of "50 Greatest Science-Fiction Movies of All Time". How about "50 Worst Movie Adaptations of Sci-Fi Novels"? About the only resemblance between the book and the movie are a couple of names and the title.
