First of all, no offense meant to the good conservatives in the Air Force.
Second, I thank all members of our military for their service, regardless of their political points of view.
Here is what I have observed...and admittedly, I have known only a FEW Air Force veterans. So perhaps my experience isn't the best judge.
Seems to me, though, that of the friends and acquaintences I've had, the folks who have served or are serving in the AIR FORCE are much more prone to be liberals in their politics than others I've known who are in the Army, Navy, or Marines.
One particular encounter with an old close friend, who I've come back into contact with, seems to have really gone off the deep end...
I don't know, perhaps I'm wrong and just have had "bad luck" in meeting up with the libs.
Is this a fair judgement--are there more liberals in the Air Force? And if so, why?
Thanks.
I think about 65% of Air Force vote GOP so that still leaves 35% who are wacked out ?
Oh, boy! This’ll be fun to watch!
Did you know that 76% of people just make up statistics?
No guns.
Polling doesn’t really show that, it might be true, but not by much.
I’d say it’s pretty simple. There is the belief that AF is intellectually superior. Liberalism appeals to people that think they are superior to the rest of the unwashed masses.
Jet lag
I don’t know, perhaps I’m wrong and just have had “bad luck” in meeting up with the libs.
I would bet that is the case.
The way I’ve seen the scale from my experience is:
Conservatives
Chair Force
Jar Heads
Grunts
Squids
Liberals
Of course everything is relative.
The same reason there are more liberals in the social sciences - compared to the “hard” sciences...
Nah, trust me, there are LOTS of leftists in the Army, too.
Maybe it’s a conspiracy. Do they ask you on your application for admission if you’re a liberal????
I think it’s cause their football team sucks. And Army’s.
GO NAVY.
Take another look....Navy officers aren’t far removed....
Semper Fi.
I don’t know if I’ve observed the same. If anything, you hear about more of an evangelical Christian presense at the Air Force Academy that at any of the other academies. It’s located in Colorado Springs, so that makes sense.
Most of the AF vets I’ve met are pretty conservative, though I’m from Tennessee, so it goes with the territory.
Don’t know if there really are more liberals in the Air Force or not, but I will say this: with some MOS exceptions, the Air Force is the closest thing to being a civilian one can be and still be called “military”. I was a grunt in the Army, but a good friend of mine was enlisted Air Force at the same time. I loved visiting him and all of the co-eds in their “dorms”.
Unlike most other services, much of the Air Force, outside of deployment and the Ready Combat Groups (nuclear missileers and the like), is a 9-5 job for most people.
It’s a generally more educated workforce, more permanently stationed, and a lot more technical than other services.
While this could breed a lot of libs, IMHO, it doesn’t.
I’ve met a lot more ex-squid libs, than I ever have AF.
“Id say its pretty simple. There is the belief that AF is intellectually superior. Liberalism appeals to people that think they are superior to the rest of the unwashed masses.”
hmm I think that conservatives are intellectually superior and that most liberals are low-skilled union goons who push for more government goodies.
OK, Ill give it a shot.
Probably will anger a few AF vets, but this is just an opinion of an old squid, so please dont take this personal. If I was a Liberal that wanted to join the military, I would probably want to join a branch of service that I would have the least chance of having to do any actual fighting. That leaves the Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force. Now the Navy and the Coast Guard, unless I come out near the top of my A-School class, I would probably be on a ship which will leave the comfort of home for 6 to 9 month deployments, and would have two go on three of those my first hitch.
In the Air Force there is a good chance I could be stationed in one location my first 4 years, and there is a good chance it could be a stateside AF Base or a cosy location in Europe. So as a Panzya$$ Liberal Im choosing the Air Force. Besides, their blue uniforms match perfectly with the blue Toyota Prius Ill drive onto the base each morning.
