"Dr. Laura" Schlessinger likes her new skull tattoo
Orange County Register ^ | Nov. 5, 2010 | Gary Lycan

Radio personality Laura Schlesinger says she has "no regrets" regarding the tattoo she got from Glenn West at Classic Tattoo in mid-October. It's on her upper left arm and shows a skull clenching in its teeth a single rose. "It is so me," she wrote in an e-mail.

"It doesn't have a name. I came up with the design because I'm a 'bad ass girly girl' (ride a Harley, skipper a racing sailboat, pump iron, hike, etc.)," she e-mailed. She has posted 13 images of the work-in-progress on her website.

"My son thinks it is fabulous ('live hard'), my husband thinks the art is wonderful but wishes it were on someone else. Hey, I'm 63 and I'm not going to have one thing on that Bucket list," she wrote.

KFWB/980 AM has no idea yet who will replace Schlessinger when she quits her show at the end of the year, but they are auditioning replacements.

Was she ever a Christian? I know she was a “Jew” for a while, in other words, she converted. But then she changed her mind.

So what does she claim to be now? I haven’t listened to her for what, ten years, and not much then.

Good point! I don’t like ‘em but hey, she’s an adult and it’s not like I give a flip what she does to her body. But it might have been cool if she’d had a strip of duct tape tatooed across her mouth instead ;-)

I predict a nude video will be next...

And I see how many are anxious to tear down whatever or whoever is greater then they are....with glee.

It's how you justify yourself.

Yeah, she said she missed the Xmas music while being Jewish.

If she was really serious about a tattoo she would have put it on her forehead.

Doctor?

She did that about 40 years ago.

***Dr. Laura has done more to put young women back on the path to a good life than anyone I can think of in recent history.***

I totally agree with you! And she has smacked sense into a lot of “it's all about me” women and has saved many children from the heartbreak of divorce.

If, at her age, she want to get a tattoo, who cares.

“So what does she claim to be now? I haven’t listened to her for what, ten years, and not much then”

I don’t know. I occasionally hear a bit of show. I can’t take her advice, especially to little kids.

I remember with heartbreak a little fat kid, calling her. She was like 10 or something. She wanted to stop going to school, everyone at school was teasing her, what should she do?

Dr. Laura recommended exercise and apples with cinnamon. Keep right tolerating the abuse each day; submit to it, diet and exercise.

Good grief, it was so cold. I would not go to work to be taunted and insulted every day over my weight. The EEOC would not allow it. I get an insult-free work place. That poor little girl was told to man up and deal with it, five days a week. No compassion.

I wanted to jump through the radio and take the kids home and home school her, but, obviously that was not possible.

Dr. Laura often gives good honest common sense advice but the grace is rarely there. It’s all law with her, usually.

Ok, Doc, now you can write the sequel “ELEVEN Stupid Things Women Do To Mess Up Their Lives.”

Yeah, reality and truth is often that, eh?

I really don't care if someone has a tattoo, it's their business. But, I listened to Dr. Laura on the radio for years and I distinctly remember her saying that putting a tattoo on your body is akin to defacing yourself. It's basically permanent, unless you pay a costly fee to have it removed by laser. A tattoo you have inked on today, you may live to regret, as you mature. I find it hypocritical that Dr. Laura is having a “do as I say, but not as I do” moment.

Dr. Laura has lost it. A tattoo is a symbol of the trashy life Dr. Laura urges people to avoid. Her getting a tattoo at her age, after decades of preaching a conservative message, makes me think she’s having some kind of meltdown.

She's been going more and more libertarian.....I don't think she has any religion she follows anymore....

don't like her and haven't listened for a long time...she's biased and one sided and she puts her callers in tears....and I hate to see people already in emotional distress getting the business from her...

....if someone as old and square as Dr Laura just got one, the tattoo fad of the past 10-15 years has finally and officially "jumped the shark."

Yes, reality and truth is often that.

The little girl did need to eat less and exercise more - probably. Except for the rare medical instances.

But she was a little girl, Las Vegas Ron. What was she supposed to do while supposedly losing this weight? Just let people hate her to pieces?

What if she didn’t lose it? What if she didn’t lose enough? How was she supposed to keep up her energy for school and such? How was she supposed to figure out, at age 10, how to get her body in order, when the majority of adults don’t even get their bodies in order?

So grace must enter in, too.

She should have been shown compassion, and she certainly should not have been forced into an environment where she is despised on a daily basis. I wouldn’t force myself into one.

I don’t know that much about her but the few times I stomached her show, all she did was insult and berate whoever she was talking to. Later I found out she wasn’t a doctor at all but somebody who talked a lot. She always seemed like a big doofus to me. She probably screwed up more people than she ever helped. It was a show and she was an entertainer, sort of the Jerry Springer class, without the video. Obviously it afforded a lot of cosmetic repairs and a huge tatoo.

Puh-leeeeeze.

Sounds like YOU could have used a little of Dr. Laura's philosophy when you were a kid if as an adult you think you're entitled to "an insult-free workplace." Life is a series of "manning up" moments, and 99 percent of the time (as with this little girl), you're called on to man up to accepting responsibility for yourself. You either man up, or flunk out until the next manning up moment, when hopefully you'll do better.
