I was defriended on Facebook today. Reason given was that my republishing of negative Obama articles was causing this person extreme duress.
Two things - I have a pretty good friend from grad school who complained about the same thing. This guy is smart as a whip when it comes to technical stuff but obviously shouldn’t be allowed to carry sharp objects when it comes to politics. He went on and on about how conservative posts showed up on “his wall” (meaning his news feed) and how it took him 30-60 minutes to calm himself down after this occurred. And seriously - in technical matters this guy is super sharp - and loves sports, beer and all the usual guy stuff. Just a clueless liberal when it comes to politics.
Secondly there is this guy and another individual from grad school. The other one is a girl and she’s not as smart as the guy but much more intolerant. She’s very intolerant politically. At least the guy would debate you.
But both of them - are always asking for “recommendations” as to films, restaurants, house painters and the like.
So it occurred to me - that they must think that they are exemplary open-minded people (in their own mind) since they are always asking for “recommendations”. When, in fact, their brains short-circuit when they encounter political ideas they don’t like.
Not that we don’t all know this - but it’s pretty impressive when you see it in your own friends.
Wear it as a badge of honor, in my opinion! :~D
When faced with that kind of stupidity, that’s the only thing you can do.
Sorry, but I'm calling bullshit.
Everyone knows liberals are all about celebrating differences, diversity, and being open minded to other opinions.
(/sarc)
Don’t need “friends” like that anyway. friends will stick by a person no matter what.
I am not saddened a bit by this. In fact, I was posting those articles in response to family members who were spewing all this pro-liberal/pro-Obama vile. I was just trying to even the playing field and man, they do not want to play far at all.
Of course, I knew this already.
These liberals weren’t your friends anyway.Somehow you were feeding their egos and pettiness. Your logical thought process was probably messing up their drug induced stupor - bad trip, mannnnn!!!!!!
What took you so long?
I do not allow Friends of Friends. I have only one Dem on my friends list. My first friend on FB, a HS classmate. He’s smart. He ignores the stuff I post.
RE: “Far more than 51% of my friends do or did. Sigh. I made a lot of friends back in my youth, and so many of them went Hollywood liberal. This is probably true for every conservative in L.A.”
*****************
Yes Yaelle, that’s exactly what has happened in my case — I’m one little conservative in a sea of L.A.’s far left, often “Hollywood” type libs — Yecchhh!!!
I live in King County outside Seattle, I feel your pain.
Be proactive and “Defriend” your liberal REAL LIFE “friends”... that’s what I told my old man to do... so far so good... less stress in his life.
Same thing happened to me and an ex girlfriend.
Get this, she was pro Obama, but anti-abortion. I grilled her why she had such conflicting views and it turned out that she supported Obama because he’s black.
I’m glad to be rid of that fickle idiot, to be honest. All she ever did was cause me pain. Not to mention too that she gained so much weight after we broke up.
What in blazes are you people doing with liberal friends in the first damn place? There are more than enough conservative people out there that you dont have to waste your time with the stupid ones. And that goes for moronic family members too.
I de-friended Facebook itself some months ago...
That is AWESOME, I think my new goal is to see how many of my friends will do the same however I think over 95% are super conservative like me. This just made my day, thaks.
BTW, sorry you were defriended :-(
At first I was kind of shocked, but then I laughed about it.
i was thinking about defriending some acquaintances for the opposite resason.
So I hunted around on google images for a while and the few links that I thought looked hopeful took me to....removed Facebook pages.
Ha! Imagine that.
Anyway, the whole theme for me is how citizenship is becoming "virtual" and how easily one can become marginalized, a "non-person," as it were. Of course, as another poster pointed out, Facebook's (and hence, this generation's) definition of "friend" is woefully inadequate. Pity them.
Let's see if I can find one about the "Ministry of Information..."
FB friends remind me a scene in the Dead Zone. Walkin’s character let’s his doctor know that his mother is still alive and survived Nazi extermination. The doctor looks her up, calls her, and when he hears her voice he hangs up the phone. Explanation was “it was never meant to be.” That’s what FB friends are like.
