NEW YORK (MarketWatch) Apple Inc. is a Death Star. It pulls in most of what comes into its orbit and either overtakes or assimilates it.
The success of the company is particularly spectacular because it is largely a four-product enterprise, consisting of the iPad, iPod, Mac, and iPhone. It also produces a suite of supporting software that includes its OSX, the Safari browser, iTunes, and the App Store. These non-hardware products knit together the iProduct universe.
Apples product line stands in stark contrast to tech giants like Microsoft Corp. (MSFT 24.75, -0.03, -0.10%) , Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ 41.02, +0.04, +0.10%) , Oracle Corp. (ORCL 26.96, -0.16, -0.59%) , and Cisco Inc. (CSCO 22.17, +0.08, +0.36%) , all of which have a multitude of product lines that spreads risk and increases sales opportunities. As a result, Apples revenue run rate, is only over $60 billion much smaller than that of Cisco.
Some consumers are wondering whether a tablet like the iPad can replace a laptop for travel purposes. On a recent trip to Paris, Walt Mossberg decided to find out, saying au revoir to his laptop and relying on a tablet and smartphone for work and play.
However, despite the competitions size, Apples market cap is $240 billion, more than those of Oracle and Cisco combined. Perhaps the thing that Wall Street loves most about the company is that it is growing quickly, especially for a company of its size.
The reason behind its growth is simple: Apple clobbers the competition.

If that's being a troll, you know where the abuse button is. Push it and let's find out.
We LOVE our Ipads. The touch screens are amazingly good. Apps run screaming fast. I’m actually on line and working before my desktop at the office even boots up.
Battery life is much longer than our old Dells too.
I’ve even installed a SIP phone app on mine so I can make and receive calls on it. I ran a 3 party conference call on it the other day at a customer demo. Dial my desk phone and the iPad rings anywhere I have a wireless or 3G connection.
Way cool that.
I pinged a few people to whom Sword has stated categorically that Apple fans never attack, never insult, that non-Apple fans are always the first to attack. You’re free to see posts just a few days ago where Sword re-iterated this claim as fact...
I thought the most recent proof of that fallacious claim would be worthwhile for them.
You may also see threads recently where a discussion between myself and others pinged immediately resulted in a “calling of the troops” by no less than Sword. Perhaps you can query him about it?
You disrupt. That is your purpose.
Way cool that it is!
You think you have apps, huh?
Tell the lady of the house that I have the OPI app. Huh! ;-)
Like I said, you disrupt.
Your purpose is exactly like Palin-haters who INSIST on going on Palin threads.
Either I'm just a disruptor, or I offered an different opinion or perstective and you can't tolerate it.
If you report me for abuse and I'm clearly being disruptive, then it'll be decided, and that will be it. Isn't that easy enough?
some of us don’t read outside, strangely enough. We play golf, swim, garden, walk our dogs, mow the lawn, or wash the car.
reading on the beach? nope, we read in bed at night instead of watching the tube, and appreciate the iPad for reading in the dark so we don’t disturb our spouses.
to each his own...
Why are you comically pleading for the abuse button? You are so transparent!
LOL!
How about you guys just stay off the Apple threads?
I run a SIP phone as well - Fring. Works with Windows, WinMo, Android, iPhone and a bunch of other things, and even is compatible with Skype. It's great to have multiple phone numbers and conferencing on your portable device! Got about 7 phone numbers around the world that ring whatever device I'm currently using (cell phone, tablet, or laptop).
Hopefully wireless carriers "get it" and figure out that the days of making money by selling voice calls is dead, and simply providing connections to the Internet is where the money is at!
Why won’t you use it? Do you enjoy the flame war that much?
Tell me more about the SIP!
Wondering if it would be helpful to put on my iPad, but I do love my iPhone.
For you, I can do that.
Thank you so much for asking them to stop bashing Swordmaker and us apple users!
They show up on every apple related thread, disrupting the flow of info, and calling other freezers names.
Ruins the threads, really, and I hope they listen to you, and refrain from the incessant Apple negativity..
Great! She’ll love that. Thanks

Hey, a new name for us!
I have a dedicated VOIP number in Thailand (for friends and business associates to use), that you can call from any phone in Thailand - local call. Then it rings my device (whichever I'm on - my Windows laptop, my HTC Touch Pro2 phone, or my Android tablet) to pick up.
Also have Skype numbers in Germany, Chile, Hong Kong, and the US. And I can call out to those countries through Fring a very low rates as well...
