I will be handling this thread on a temporary basis only, and as time and health permits. You people are used to - and deserve - more. Hopefully, someone more qualified will step up and take this over. :)

Survivor: Nicaragua is the 21st season of Survivor. It will moving to Wednesday nights this season. In fact, it begins tonight, September 15, 2010, 8/7c.
The theme this season will be Young vs Old. The players will include a former NFL coach (Jimmy Johnson) and an amputee triathlete champion (Kelly Bruno).
From Wikipedia:
Survivor host Jeff Probst, has also announced that the Hidden Immunity Idol will continue to be used in the game. However, as idols have been found too easily the past two seasons (most often by Russell Hantz), or as the show's producers have dubbed it, "The Russell Factor", the idol will be hidden differently. The clues to the idols' locations will be visual rather than written as in past seasons. In addition, the tribes will be vying for control of a new item, the Medallion of Power, that, when used, gives an advantage in a challenge, but is then transferred to the other tribe.
Let's meet the players.
Here are photos of the players.
Listed below are links to player profiles. They include a video clip of the player, which is, unfortunately preceded by a short - but annoying - ad.
La Flor (age: 30 and under)
.
Espada (age: over 40)
My manx is walking the keyboard right now so any typos I blame on her. She an insider now days since our big boy is no long with us. She would wander off and he’d have to bring her home. That and she’d always bring live presents. The last slithery one met with my cast iron skillet. Skillet won. Cat is now 100% indoors. She was friends with our Siberian husky (rest in peace, friend), she tolerates the hyper terrier, but little does she realize that one day the ever so chilled newfie is going to get tired of being smacked on the nose and have her for lunch.
Well, that was an interesting episode. The oldsters deserved to lose since they lost most of their water. Geez, how simple was it to pour it and keep the gutter together. As much as I hate to see it happened, they are so going to get Pagonged. Sorry, but Wendy should have kept her mouth shut and Jimmy might have been booted. Idiot surfer dude aka Fabian is the one you want with you at the end...
I thought they nicknamed him Fabio. :)
You’re right. See, cat typo! Fabian, Fabio, whatever he’s not going to be around long enough to grow his golden locks.
I think the biggest clue is who Wendy voted for. It did not appear to be any secret around camp that the coach had a huge target on his back, so Wendy voting for anyone other than the coach shows a total disconnect from the tribe, and likely that no one cared who Wendy was voting for, because whomever it was, it didn't matter.
But wow, you know that Jeff Probst sat in on the editing on the first episode, and said ‘hey, you're going to show that, and you're going to come up with reaction shots. I don't want the audience to think anything other than ‘OMG, you idiot, why didn't you just keep your big trap shut.’
In many past interviews, it's revealed that tribal councils tend to go quite long, what seems a few minutes to us can be hours for tribal members. And there's a big reason for it, it is a goldmine for editors to craft the story after the game is over with, to piece together the trail from the early stages to the finale.
So for anyone to interrupt when Jeff finally says ‘let's get to the voting’, a moment many past survivors have said is a relief, and a signal that sleep is only an hour or so off, it's an absolute shocker. It was a move of desperation, and it felt like it. Now I'm sure that Wendy's a great person, has loads of friends who care deeply for her, but wow, it was like she just banged back five Red Bulls and was really trying to spread her wings.
As for the speculation by others that the oldsters are pretty much out of it, and that tribe will quickly die off, eh, sincerely doubt that. They'll use the medallion next time, take the advantage, and pull off a victory. Least that's my guess...
Overall, love the scenery, like the characters, was pleasantly surprised with the medallion twist and the immunity challenge, as well as having the immunity idol already heading towards play.
Got a kick out of her making fire with the glasses within one hour of hitting camp.
Two sore spots for me with Survivor contestants is so many of them have no clue about making fire or building a water tight shelter.
She laid it on Jeff at TC about practicing. And then he gave them the metal match.
Jimmy T looks to launch a time or two and people may look to get rid of him.
We’ll see.
“...... They’ll use the medallion next time, take the advantage, and pull off a victory. Least that’s my guess...”
The medallion is a two edged sword. Once you use it it goes to the other side.
Using it last night would have been a waste. With the extra bucket lead it looks like they still would have gotten beaten on the puzzle.
Any challenge where it looks like your team can beat them heads up you need to hold the medallion.
Do not be too quick to use power - and give it away.
I understand what you're saying, using it last night wouldn't have made a difference, in theory - who knows if it would have made those working the puzzle work faster had they gotten the pieces first.
I did miss something, if the medallion can be used at any challenge, and if that is the case, the youth would have used it at the next reward challenge, giving back the medallion for the next immunity challenge.
Plus, the other problem with not using it is that if a team loses, that's another floating target on the backs of everyone who said 'don't use it', and in a social game like Survivor, that can be the difference between staying and going home at tribal council.
As an aside, Survivor really needs to add an extra hour to the first episode. I'd really like to see more of the first three days, for both teams, than what they show now. Too often we only get tiny glimpses of how things are going, because they've only got 25 minutes to show us what's going on outside the introduction, the challenge and the tribal council.
Nothing has really matched that first episode of Survivor in the first season, where they didn't really know what they were doing, and yet turned out one of the best starts ever. That extra 40 minutes could break out from the formula they've fallen into and give us a whole lot more insight into how the tribes are doing, give us more characters to follow, and stop so directly highlighting who's going home at the end of the episode.
Won't happen, I know, as CBS needs that lead in to prop up whatever show's going to go off at 9pm, but I can still wish and want.
Las night's episode introduced the Medallion of Power, which didn't help the team it ended up with.

As mentioned earlier, I will be handling this thread on a temporary basis only. Also, I don't have the original ping list, so I would appreciate it if any of you could ping interested parties to this thread. Thank you. :)
Looks like Wendy didn’t cut the mustard. By the way, if you know her so well, why didn’t you know she would get voted off first? This show was taped months ago.
He'd be the first person I would pal up with only because I'd love to talk football and sports with him. That in itself would be worth getting voted out after a couple days into the competition.......
Last night's episode introduced the Medallion of Power, which didn't help the team it ended up with, because they chose not to use it.
Great job!
Survivor ping!
I think they're contractually not allowed to talk about it.
Yes. I’m sure that’s the case. But how could you hide winning? LOL!!
Barb just watched the recorded show and said Wendy was voted off...whatever that means...
Perhaps you didn’t mean your comment to come across the way it did, but it sounded a bit snarky.
MamaDearest is a long time, loyal FReeper.....a wonderful lady. She loves cats, conservatives, God and her family. What more can I say?
BTW, I love the Seminoles.
ITA, they do need an extra hour at the beginning. It’s the time viewers get to the know the contestants and see how they interact within the tribe. The only clue we had that Wendy was on the outs was when someone (see, I didn’t get the extra time to remember whom) said she was strange and then then poof! we have Johnson talking about putting her up instead of him. Sure, she had a small one on one with the camera but it wasn’t until the actual “wait, don’t vote until you all know I’m dingy” that most of the audience knew the deal. Apologies to her FRiend but she really stepped into it there.
The Oldsters aren’t buying Johnson’s pep talks or his “I’m here so you can win the $” strategy. Sure, he probaby doesn’t need the $ but is there for the 15 minutes and the experience, however, like Wendy, that’s the wrong speech to make to these people.
High five to Jane and her fire-making skills. It’s about time! Every year since the first episode, you KNOW you’re supposed to be able to make fire. Hellllooo, Jeff tells them at every tribal council, “Fire is life.”
Is anyone going to be the Ping Master for Amazing Race?
I was being snarky. I apologize. I missed the episode and just watched it in the last hour online. I must say, that Wendy sunk her own boat if thats what this concerns. That was an idiot talking at tribal councel. I apologize to our fellow freeper for being abrasive. And to you if I offended..
I read an interview of Probst regarding the Medallion. He said when they tested the challenge, they zig zagged the troughs back and forth, so filling the barrel took a lot longer. With that in mind, the medallion advantage was huge.
But both teams did the unexpected, and just ran the troughs straight down to the barrel, so it filled a lot faster than their test runs. So the advantage would not have been as great as expected. And there is really no way of knowing if they would have been helped by the advantage.
