Thank you, Pam. The best we can figure is that she got spooked by something when she had her head under the bottom rail of the corral, stretching out as far as she could to reach grass she hadn't yet nibbled down to the ground. (They keep it 'mowed' pretty clean so nobody has to do any edging around the corral!) Anyway, the gate that goes into the field where they graze during the day has an upright rail where the hinges are that extends about 2 - 3 inches below the bottom rail of the gate, and that pipe is hollow, so I'm thinking she jumped back really hard and caught her head on it. :( It was a huge, deep gash on her jaw, and a lesser 'skinned' place on her forehead and under her throat. The jaw had to have stitches on the inside as well as the outside.

Needless to say, THAT rail will be fixed so it never happens again, but in the meantime, my husband jammed a tire just under it so she couldn't get her head close to it again.

She's getting extra apples and carrots and attention, so she's enjoying THAT!

That was so baby-fied! Reminded me of something a little child might say about his playmate. He's a whiney brat and we need to send him back to Chicago in just 2 short years, unless we can find a reason to impeach him....I wish!

Thanks, Meg - I've watched some of those episodes, too, and I get so upset at the neglect and abuse of ANY animal that's been mistreated. They didn't ask for mean, sorry, uncaring, unfeeling owners. :(

It does hut to see them just skin and bones and hardly able to walk. :(

I never knew how awful and crippling it is for a horses hooves to go untended until Animal Planet.

I hate any abuse to animals!
I have to swear off watching it at times .
