BAKERSFIELD, Calif. A doctor involved in an "on-again, off-again" relationship apparently tried to force her way into her boyfriend's home by sliding down the chimney, police said Tuesday. Her decomposing body was found there three days later.
Dr. Jacquelyn Kotarac, 49, first tried to get into the house with a shovel, then climbed a ladder to the roof last Wednesday night, removed the chimney cap and slid feet first down the flue, Bakersfield police Sgt. Mary DeGeare said.
While she was trying to break in, the man she was pursuing escaped unnoticed from another exit "to avoid a confrontation," authorities said.

Sounds like we’ve got the makings of a Sherlock Holmes mystery here!
But there’s the neighbor who reported hearing the faint cries for help. How do you explain that?
1) Women hate spiders, bugs, cobwebs, soot, snakes, scorpions, bird's nest, and anything else they might encounter in a chimney.
2) Women hate risking mutilation or any kind of damage to their faces or body. Dropping down a chimney is a sure way to get seriously hurt and/or disfigured for life.
The more I think about it, the less his story adds up.
A doctor that unstable, stupid, and lawless surely would have been the face of Obamacare. She would have been the one with no lines, no waiting. Sniff.
Failing that, she tries to go down the chimney?
from the timeline:
9 p.m. A woman goes to the house to care for Moodie's fish in a tank and smells a bad odor from the chimney. She sees some fluids in the chimney and notifies police
That's just nasty.
Another article explains that she tried to break into the back door with the shovel. I jumped to the conclusion that she had used the shovel to dig into the house. I still question whether a woman would choose to go down a chimney, though.
Medical examiner is saying she died of mechanical asphyxiation. How's he going to kill her in a manner that mimics that? When was the last time you heard of someone killing their lover by compressing their chest? If he'd have killed her, likely it would be blunt force trauma, knife, gun, or strangulation, all of which would be detected. Let's face it. Sometimes people go nuts, do stupid stuff, and it turns out badly.
Desperate woman. Should have spent a few bucks on this book. Might have saved her life

Read the whole story, and it reveals that he didn’t know she was there.
You know what? I have that book, and I make a point of re-reading it every six months or so. It’s true, it’s good, and more women should read & heed.
I realize that, but the linked story did not explain about the back door. It just said she tried to get into the house with a shovel, which is when I hastily concluded she had used the shovel to dig. I had to do a Google search to find out about the door. Nevertheless, it was a dumb assumption on my part.
Or at very least a contender for this year's Darwin Awards.
All mothers should get this book for their daughters - from about age of 10 on up.
Well, none of the stories seems to give all the details. I’ve read 4 different versions so far, so that’s where I’m getting my sudden expertise.
Yep. I wasted a good 40 years not having a clue. My “don’t waste the pretty” time is up, but at least I won’t waste the next 40 years!

Such is the state of journalism today.
It’s SOOO California that her family tried to find her with a psychic...
All the explanations and theories of this mishap are cracking me up! lol
