I know. Big Deal. Who cares? Why post a vanity about it? I don't know.
Jaws came out when I was five years old. I just watched it for the first time. I had heard that the special effects weren't that great. So I never bothered watching it. It was actually pretty decent.
I don't know about Jaws 2 - 4. Should I bother?
Did you know that Spielberg was worried Jaws would be a big failure?
As am I.
I remember, years ago, seeing a documentary about.....I don't remember....either 'Jaws', Speilberg, or Hitchcock. Anyway; turns out Speilberg is a huge fan of Hitchcock. He was not successful in meeting his childhood hero until the glory of 'Jaws'. He gets an introduction through a mutual friend.
Speilberg: Mr Hitchcock it is such a great pleasure to meet you. I'm a huge fan!!
Hitchcock: Speilberg? Oh, you're the boy that made the fish movie.
Yes indeed, the opening scene from Jaws was the most frightening ‘horror scene’ ever filmed- and no blood, gore or monsters were to be seen.
They had a documentary on the Biography Channel about the making of Jaws.
Speilberg said the yanking back and forth of the actress who played Crissy was very dangerous as it could have really injured her.
Chrissy herself said that given all the screaming she was required to do, that if she had really been in trouble there was no way for them to know.
Also for that scene, Speilberg had her tilt her hear back and poured water down Chrissy’s throat to create the water logged screams- so actually Speilberg was guilty of doing some of the first ‘water boarding’. LOL
Brave actress, that.
‘Jaws’ was a masterpiece. No doubt about it.

One of the funniest and most underated movies ever. Both Falk and Arkin are perfect together. That movie has a lot of lines in it that have garnered their way into my families lexicon:
"Serpentine! Serpentine!"
"What, you never took an early lunch?"
"Flames? My car has flames!"
"The CIA? Great benefits, the key is staying alive."
And my favorite:
"Don't mention the scar"
"a Z????"
.
Billy Wilder and Orson Welles made a few good motion pictures.
Should read, ‘it became a phenomenon that will never be replicated- lighting in a bottle.
Coppola went though similar things with Apocalypse Now. There is a documentary called Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmakers Apocalypse that details this.
I loved that movie. Great sound track.
I read the book. Didn’t know there was a T.V. drama about it. I’ll have to watch that.
Interesting trivia about the head coming through the boat.
that scene was an afterthought- done after the filming wrapped.
Spielberg got to thinking that he wanted to throw in just one more scene to scare the audience.
The scene was filmed in the film editor’s swimming pool back in LA. They poured milk into the pool to replicate the murky ocean.
Hitch was jealous, no doubt.
His films never grossed that kind of astromical amount.
If you liked “Jaws”, I recommend that you check out this sci-fi flick “Star Wars”.
Bwahaha! I knew you’d chime in. :)
ROTFL!!! Good one!
We talk about the Guacamole Act of 1909.
With the giant tsetse flies carrying off children. A classic.
That’s my favorite part also.
Whenever my family chooses colors for something, we always segway into some of those lines.
“Not a bright yellow, but a soft, buttery yellow...”
In their beaks!
LOL
Right, you are. I got my Spielberg movies mixed up.
I got Close Encounters on Blu-Ray. I got the Anniversary Edition of Jaws on plain-old DVD. It looks good on my Blu-Ray player, though.
Yeah. Sure. Intimidated too.
