Oh come on! You have got to be kidding. How ignorant can you get? I mean, I’d understand if it was a case of southeast vs south; or if they were in the middle of the city and they didn’t realize which side of town has the GD Kaaba. But this lack of awareness of where MECCA is - 15 miles away! - for TEN YEARS! - that wins the prize!

I could get my rotor antenna pointed in the right direction when I was a kid. I was sent up to the roof to turn it, and my dad sat in the living room and told me when it was aligned correctly. Why didnt they do something like that, seeing how they could probably see it if they stood up.

After realizing the error, the mosque’s leaders changed the direction of the prayer carpets so the worshippers now face the Kaaba. Perhaps part of the problem is that they were indoors in a mosque.
In there were some turns between the entrance and the prayer room, it might not have been immediately obvious which way was southeast.
