One member of staff at Microsoft working on the KIN project said:
We had a huge launch party on campus and I bet that party cost more than the amount of revenues we took in on the product. As an employee, I am embarrassed. As a shareholder, I am pissed. Its one thing to incubate products and bring them to a proof-of-concept to see what works, but its something else to launch. I suspect we launched because we felt like we had to so we could save face because we were trying to build buzz, but overall huge fail.
Is this the device that MS called an “ad delivery vehicle”?
I sure want to pay for something that will throw ads at me all the time.
Maybe, they seem to have hit a Grand Slam with Windows7.
Ballmer, on the other hand, actually graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard with degrees in mathematics and economics.
This, should really tell you something.
Yet they make some of the best basic optical mice around. They *last*!

This didn't cause MS to kill the Kin. What killed the Kin was a lack of demand.
