The average Social Security check is about $1,200. You can receive that payment while living anywhere in the world. In some countries, you can even have your Social Security check direct-deposited into your local bank account. Here are five places where you could retire on your Social Security income alone.
Boquete, Panama. Panama offers super user-friendly options for foreign residency. Resident retirees receive a long list of benefits including discounts on everything from prescription medicines and in-country air travel to closing costs on the purchase of real estate.
Granada, Nicaragua. Granada is ... home to a welcoming community of expat retirees enjoying new lives in this land of lakes and volcanoes. You could live well in Granada on about $900 per month.
Hangzou, China. About $1,000 a month could buy you a comfortable and super-exotic new life in Hangzou.
Morelia, Mexico. You could retire on a budget of about $1,100 per month in this colonial city full of charm and history.
Cuenca, Ecuador. The average monthly Social Security check ($1,200) could also buy you a pleasant new life in Cuenca. The city has an established community of expats who will welcome you and help with your transition.

Have they gotten rid of the Muslim insurgents?
“Have they gotten rid of the Muslim insurgents?”
I have never seen a Muzie here.
As I mentioned on another post, there are probably more in Detroit then in the Philippines.
They do have a group of insurgents, but they are down in Mindanao, and on Jolo Island, nowhere near anything.
I have a big old house on thirty acres. Am thining of having roomates with separate kitches and baths quite a bit. We should be able to have cleaning help and a relaxed country life a half hour from city lights.
My wife is from San Carlos City...i have seriously considered retiring there...do you have decent access to pharmacies? How is the medical care?
I fo not know San Carlos.
I have been only to Bacolod and Dumaguete on Negros.
I live on Cebu, two hours south of Cebu city.
Even small towns have various drug counters.
I do not take any drugs or have any known medical problems,
but many, if not most of the American Expats here are grossly overweight, taking numerous medications, look like hell, but seem to survive.
I did buy some oral antibiotics for an infected scratch, and had no problem getting what I needed.
Most drugs do not need a prescription unless you are buying from one of the big drug chains in the cities.
Most every town has some sort of hospital.
San Carlos is straight east of Bacolod...on the coast...i may be traveling there next year for a visit.
I ordered a Manila milkshake once and I couldn't figure out why anybody liked 'em.
It tasted like licking a postage stamp to me.

The Muslim population is on Mindanao and some expats live there in Davao city. The Muslim population in the PI is not particularly hostile to Americans. In the past the US has been the only thing keeping the other Filipinos from trying to wipe the Muslims out. There has been some violence and kidnappings in the past though. Historically, the Muslim violence that has occurred has been in pursuit of independence, not the usual convert-the-infidels, free Palestine, or bring-back-the-caliphate nonsense.
What money? You still letting them use your money? International travel? Buy a damn home elsewhere NOW, I’m not going into details on here. I’m sure you will figure it out.
OK, I don’t have a clue what you talking about now.
I don’t have a clue what you are asking so that makes us even.
You talking about LA?
thank you so much for the info!
Damn right! Hey, I’m an “expat” from SoCal to N FL.
.
How’s the PI on, ummm, “self-defense issues”?
