1:20 p.m. LINCOLN _ Nebraska has officially accepted an invitation to join the Big Ten Conference, The World-Herald learned early Friday afternoon.
Two sources from conference offices said that Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany contacted BIg 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe on Friday morning to inform Beebe that Delany had officially invited Nebraska to join.
A source with direct knowledge of the situation said Nebraska accepted.

OU has also said they do not want to separate from Texas.
I understand this is TX politics, but as a football fan I am sick of Baylor having to be dragged along with the other major Texas schools. Baylor should be playing the likes of SMU, Rice, etc instead of getting beat up every Saturday.
Despite the popular perception in Nebraska, that N on their helmets does not stand for knowledge.

You’re right. If UT and OU ( dragging along little brothers) go to the SEC it will become THE dominant conference in the country. The problem will be that it will be difficult if not impossible for a team from the expanded SEC to go undefeated and thus get a berth in the National Championship game unless there is some sort of new BCS arrangement.
Texas can still save the Big 12. They’ve lost two schools. Losing Nebraska hurts, but Colorado is eminently replacable. Neither of them have done a whole lot in football or basketball in the past few years anyways. Get some type of pledge from Missouri and perhaps redo the penalty for leaving. Make it massive. Then add two new schools and work on getting a new TV deal that brings in money for the league. BYU and Air Force would be nice additions.

So did the OSU AD last week in an email to a member of the Texas Board of Regents. He stated the only thing OSU wants is to be with Texas when the dust settles. Texas holds the cards right now and if they go to the Pac 10 (which I now do not believe will happen) they’re going to exact some heavy concessions. The Pac 10 now has 11 schools which is not where they want to be, so Texas in effect has real leverage here.

And yes, the ‘N’ on Memorial Stadium also stands for ‘Knowledge”.
And they put artificial turf in Memorial Stadium to stop the cheerleaders from grazing.

That’s a nice article and I guess it fits what I asked for. It’s from the hometown paper trying to justify why it should be in the Big 10. That’s not really what I was looking for. I should be more specific. I’m sure I can find articles in Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Syracuse and Conneticut why those programs should be justified to be in the Big 10.
What I’m talking about is national writers that are writing about why Rutgers is being talked about for inclusion into the Big 10. My fault. All of those articles talk about Rutgers opening up the New York market. Are you denying that this is the reason everyone thinks Rutgers is going there??? C’mon!!!
You're right about that, but you also don't understand the big picture. Rutgers gets ratings when they're winning and they don't when they're not. Like most sports teams.
But the key for the Big 10 is the fees they'll collect if they can get on the basic television packages in the NY metro area. It could amount to tens of millions of dollars for the conference.
Can you list the non-monetary reasons any of these realignments are taking place? Is Oklahoma moving to improve its academic credentials? Is the Big Ten after Notre Dame because of its historical significance to the game?
College football is about money. Has been for about the last thirty or forty years.

Huh? I think you are confused. The only sport Texas has been dominant in the big 12 is baseball. Football - OU versus Texas 7-7, OU 6 conference championships Texas 3. Kansas is the dominant men’s BB program and OU has been the dominant women’s program.
You’re basically talking about the left overs of the old SWC and throwing in Utah.
Jerry or someone from the Lone Star State may try to put the new Pac-Integer title game there should the TX and OK schools leave for that conference.
The largest Razorback club in the nation is in the Metroplex. Jones wanted Texas to play Arkansas every year at Jerry World but Texas didn’t want the Hogs’ exposure to Texas H.S. players. A&M took the deal and T.U. was P.O.’d.
One team leaving usually kills a conference. Arkansas goiing to the SEC killed the SWC.
Rutgers is also attractive to the Big Ten because of Penn State. Since joining the Big Ten, Penn State has been alone at the far eastern boundry of the conference. It would be beneficial to Penn State to have Rutgers, Maryland, or Syracuse (yuk) join the Big Ten.
There are also enough Alumni from the Big Ten schools living in Philadelphia, New York City and New Jersey to ensure that every Rutgers home game is sold out. Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State and others would benefit from having fundraising events with their alumni that are tied in with football games at Rutgers.
It is about the money, and there are plenty of different ways to get it.
I keep thinking the rivalries of this new conference would be incredible. Texas-Tennessee seems like a rivalry made in heaven.
My suspicion is that when the sixteen team super conferences sort out that the rest of the teams will form into conferences. The conference championships will become the first round of the playoffs. Bowl games will become the quarterfinals and onto the championship. It may mean shortening the regular season and letting the minor bowls take teams that don't make the playoffs.
After the re-alignment, there will be significant changes in the BCS.
