A two-year bowl ban and a loss of more than 20 football scholarships are among the sanctions that the NCAA has dealt USC, a source with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.

The NCAA, the governing body for collegiate sports, informed USC of its decision after a four-year investigation regarding allegations centered on former football player Reggie Bush and former basketball player O.J. Mayo. The NCAA could make its decision public as early as today.

USC officials would not confirm that the school had received the NCAA's report. Asked if USC had heard from the NCAA, Athletic Director Mike Garrett said: "We are looking at things right now. That's about all I can say."

USC spokesmen said the university would address the situation when the NCAA makes the report public.

Limited recruiting contacts, probation and forfeiture of victories are also among the penalties regarded as possibly in play. USC sources, who requested anonymity

Good. Maybe the Heisman will now be awarded to the player who should have won it that year...Vince Young.

Pretty sure they will but check this out:

April 28, 2006:

ESPN reports that Bush's attorney, Cornwell, has turned over evidence of an extortion plot against his client by New Era Sports representatives to NFL Security and the league's Players Association. The NFL issues a memo to teams in which Bush denies any knowledge of his parents' financial ties to New Era Sports. Later that day, the Texans pass on Bush with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. A source with the team says Bush's reluctance to discuss specifics of his parents' living arrangements played a part in the Texans' decision to bypass him.

What amazed me was how the sports media were pimping Reggie Bush and USC so much back then. I’m sure the ESPN pontificators knew there was shady dealings with the Bush family, but on the other hand had the gall to claim the 2005 USC squad were the best ever. That is, until Texas beat them for the National Championship in the Rose Bowl.

Lane has a hot wife. One thing he did that I like was to hang the moniker “gas pumpers” on the Gamecocks when he was the Vols head coach.

This should have happened several years ago. UVa opens against USC this fall in California (if it's still there) and it won't be pretty.

The problem is, the player and coach who created this mess wont be the ones punished.

AP stole the National Championship title from LSU to give to USC in 2003.

True that. USC will suffer for years. Reggie might have to forfeit the Heisman and Oklahoma declared ‘04 National Champions and the incoming student athletes will be left to clean up the mess

Go UConn!

The way they are shuffling the conferences around, UConn could very well be in the Pac-10. Goofy.
