60% of academia is worthless crap.

I have a better idea. Glenn Beck would agree. Self educate. Learn as much as you can, make up your own mind and trust your own instincts.

Billy Martin won a lot of baseball games by taking wild risks and throwing up his finger at the concept of “conventional wisdom” and playing the buy the silly books.

I don’t know about losing friends, but the keywords for this vanity are killin’ me! My personal favorite?

‘fallonmysarahsword’, oh my ribs.

I know I don’t want to even talk to dems of any stripe. It “taints” how they speak and live. And I’m not sure what they want from me.

I just as soon not have them as friends either. That includes family. They simply think differently about everything.
I won’t be disrespectful or argumentative, but will get out of their presence and not discuss anymore than necessary.
They don’t want to hear me any more than I want to hear them.

As far as those who aren’t family our policy is,
“don’t ask, don’t tell.” Because it will eventually show itself anyway.

I am a believer, but I am not overly “religious” per say. That post is garbage. You know it too...

Yeah, you look at the keywords.

We have some deranged Palin haters floating around. Nothing funny about that.

SEOYC, please spend some quality time with your family and friends.

Your situation with Mrs Palin reminds me of an evening, years ago, when several co-workers and I were out on the town. One was involved with a married man at the time. It was Friday night, and of course, the married man was with his family.

My young co-worker dreamily stirred her drink and sighed, "Gee, I wonder what he (the married jerk) is thinking about right now."

Taking a long swig of my talk drink, I opined, "Well, he sure as (blank) ain't thinking about you." (Talking out loud is what always gets me in trouble)

Read melas' post again. You should have a professional and detached, not a personal, emotional interest in Politicians. They will always disappoint you.

Have I told you about living through RR's amnesty in the 80's? No? Great...

Hate to get Biblical on you, but having lived through your situation, and being in a family where ALL are liberals, and living in the Soviet of Washington State, I have advice:

Be in the world, not of the world.

Politics is very much a statement of values - policies, right?

The most effective form of communication is your actions.

The biggest problem with being liberal is the rootless loneliness that hits when they realize that life isn’t cracked up to what they thought it would be.

Get rich, and find out you are still unhappy? Turn to drugs, not God, right?

Get poor and spend your days wallowing in it and wonder why you are still poor, and now bitter? Don’t pray or reinvent yourself, just get more bitter. Oh, and under no circumstances should you try to help other people to make a difference somewhere. People should be helping you, right?

Conservatism, like Christianity, is a harder road because it asks for you to be accountable. Liberals spend their lives convincing themselves that somebody else is responsible for the situation they are in.

You want to boil it down, it boils down to that - accountability. Some of your friends live accountably, but espouse a lifetime of something they probably no longer believe.

Rather than lose your place in their circle of influence over a personality, sometimes its just better to reply to something by providing mute, personal testamony to what ever you live your life by.

You may not witness the moment your friend’s facade collapses, but make no mistake that you helped them come to a far more honest and easier place from which to proceed.

I’m sure you’ve heard of staunch anti-gunners having converted based on having been assaulted, mugged, or losing somebody to home invasion or the like.

Doesn’t matter how many times you say, “When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”

Sometimes, and this is especially true with liberals, the truth ends up foisting itself on you and you have to face it.

Were I to insist on my worldview with my family, I would no longer have one, on either side. Funny though, how many times I’ve been buttonholed and told how right I ended up being.

It’s one thing to be right, another to be dead right. Make your case with friends and family, and then move on. God will take care of the rest of the lesson.

Amazing how much ‘father confessor’ I’ve become for some of the more soft-headed of my clan who voted for Obama and others. Never in groups, though. Never in groups.

I am obsessed. not with Palin, but with the United States of America. I love my country. I fear for the future of it. She can take the helm for 8 years, do all the right things.. and this country would still be in really bad shape.

This country is 300+ million times bigger than Sarah Palin.

I just hope she has those 8 years and inspire generations of Americans to stand up and fight for our republic.

But yes. It is good to have a break from politics every now and again. We are very busy with our girls. I am going to a Cincinnati Reds vs San Francisco Giants game in Cincy next Monday.

life is good. but I have a passion for my country. and thats a part of life. I worry about what kind of future my daughters will have.

I’m a little late to the party, but if I were you I would purge all liberals out of my circle of friends. I did this ten years ago and honestly I couldn’t be happier because now when I hang out with my friends I can:

1. Say whatever I want about liberal politicians and policies
2. Not be worried about engaging in any heated arguments
3. Have a feeling of inner peace knowing I can be myself and not be called out on it.

Of course, this can’t apply for family, I have two cousins who are big 0 supporters and they drive me nuts with their stupidity. But I don’t hang out with them that often, only in family settings. But, hey give this technique a try, you can usually tell who is a conservative by dropping small hints about political issues. I live in Chicago and my whole network of friends are conservative because I got involved in a conservative Christian organization, maybe that’s what you need?

We all worry about the future we'll leave our children. Every last one of us (parents), conservative, liberal, libertarian, green, communists, etc etc. Love for our offspring is one of the few commanalities that cross almost all lines.

Best thing I ever heard in college was that all education was self-education. You (hopefully) leave college with the foundation to build on, nothing more.

My family is mostly liberal, even one sister who believes she is a conservative. My husband's family is extremely liberal.

Gee, you're in bad shape all around. Hope your hubby is conservative at least.

You have a much higher opinion of people in general than I do,

If all parents really wanted the best for their children, our society would not be so screwed up.

I always take life lessons from sports. Try hard, bounce back.. all the annoying cliche..

But one thinng I am going to teach my kids is if they create a mess in your life, don’t count on me come in clean things up. Baseball pitchers used to pitch a complete game. I don’t think you live a complete life with out learning from your own mistakes and learning how to come out of it a better person.
