According to a new report in The Washington Post:
.. Because your account information is stored on a company’s servers, on the “cloud” that is the Internet rather than on your personal laptop, the company owns it, not you.
Got that?
The company owns it - NOT you.
So what?
Well, suppose you get sued.
All it takes is a subpoena - and all of your - I mean Facebook’s and Google’s information not only goes public - but right into the courtroom.
Pictures - comments - the works.
Many online service providers ... have been building huge dossiers [on your online] activities. Some store detailed data for a month, while others keep it for years.
