Mystery Spirals on Mars Finally Explained
space.com ^ | 05/26/10 | Jeremy Hsu

Huge troughs curving outward from the north pole of Mars like the arms of a pinwheel were not carved into the polar ice caps by some mysterious force, researchers have discovered. Instead, the shifting pattern arose from a long process of formation and erosion that gave it the appearance of slowly moving and spiraling inward over time.

Mars is such a cool planet! Heck.... All of the planets are pretty awesome if you think about it. I find it odd that all of our planets are so close together, but so unalike. The only thing they have in common with regard to characteristics, is that some of them are small rocky planets, and others are huge ‘gas planets’. I’ve always wondered what the inner parts of the gas planets look like. I understand that under the clouds of gas, they have liquid gases and metals, with a small core.

First, they explained the channels. Then the Face and now this. Scientists have no sense of shame.

I believe the theory is that much of Jupiter’s core is a form of metallic hydrogen.

Yeah, I believe that’s right. I saw a show on it once.

I think they said that if someone could bring a shoebox sized container of it to our planet, it would destroy the Earth, or something crazy like that. lol

The most intriguing suggestion I heard about gas giants is that the core may be carbon, under intense pressure. The theory is that the core of Jupiter could be a diamond the size of Earth.

But what if it aligns with Mars?

The problem with figuring out the core of Jupiter is a total lack of trying on our part. ;’) Eventually someone will try something really smooth, such as a “dark side” neutrino detector, and try to map the core (if there is a core). The average density of Jupiter is somewhat higher than that of Saturn (which has an average density close to that of water), but given its mass (318 times that of Earth) an Earth-sized core is remotely possible, depending on what it’s made of. :’)

In that case, the first folks on Mars will need Thumpers.

Zsa Zsa Gabor would lead the first expedition.

I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon.

By a total lack of trying you mean there is no esprit de core?

Really smooth like a black domino thingy? Odysseus 2010 for shore.

And given the density of current the administration (11 trillion times that...and growing) the chance of really ever finding out is not remotely possible, because we ALL know what he’s made of (Barry isn’t really black. He’s just so dense, light bends around him.)
