"17 more states planning Ariz. 'illegal' crackdown
But ICE chief says feds might not 'process' illegals arrested by state
In what is developing into a standoff between states and the federal government that could be bigger than gun control or even health care, 17 states have launched versions of Arizona's immigration law, even as federal officials say they may not bother to process illegal aliens caught by the states.
William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, which has been trying to get officials to address the open southern border for years, warned the consequences could be dire.
"They've told the American public to go eat cake," he said.
His organization is assembling the list of state efforts to emulate the Arizona law, which makes it illegal under state as well as federal law to be in the state without documentation.
Seventeen states are now filing versions of Arizona's SB 1070, which is designed to help local police enforce America's existing immigration laws," ALIPAC said in a report today.
The report said numerous national and local polls indicate 60 to 81 percent of Americans support local police enforcing immigration laws.
Gheen said the states where some form of immigration crackdown is under development include Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas and Utah."

BTW, the liberal entitlement programs created this mess. As soon as citizens of other nations learned a free lifestyle was to be had in the US the flood gates opened. Their argument that this is an immigrant nation seems to miss this huge flaw. How many European immigrants were given a check just for being here? Answer....NONE (Don’t let them spin it)
If the FedGov won’t do its Constitutional job then the states should fire it and hire a new one.
Ping!
I wondered why Tn. was not on that list.
Maybe if enough people were to call the governor's office and demand an Arizona type law, we could at least let him know that there would be considerable support for it. I'm thinking that, if you subtract the liberal college students, the San Fran wingnuts, limousine liberals in Marin County who just love their cheap maids and yard men, and the illegal aliens (which currently comprise about 7% of California's population), then you would still have about 30 million people whose lives are negatively impacted by illegal aliens, in one way or another.
You might think that, because California voted overwhelmingly for Obama, that an Arizona law would be unpopular. But a diehard Obama supporter who is out of work, can't find a decent place to live because illegals are causing a housing shortage, and is afraid to let his children play in the neighborhood because of gang activity, would be grateful for a government that actually enforces the immigration laws. I'm thinking there might be a lot of Californians like that.
Our ID all beer sales at the convenience store did wonders as well. :^)
I don't see as many Mexicans here in my small town since Tyson owned chicken plant got raided a few years ago and a large group of illegals were picked up. I think Tyson had to pay a fine.(Missouri)
BTW, I wouldn’t buy a Tyson product if I were starving.
The entire problem is caused by the government. Immigration was fully accepted because proprietors and citizens needed services that immigration could provide. Now the government pays them to be here. Business owners had money to grow. Now the government takes it. Immigrants had a means to start a business from scratch, that has been wiped out by government regulation and taxation. The government is the one Madison and Jefferson warned about.
Meg Whitman is exactly what I mean when I say the Republicans are really Democrats in CA.
Even if she gets elected, the California legislature will do nothing, it's all Dem controlled.
The only possible way to get a law like AZ enacted in CA is through the initiative process. And then the CA Supreme Court will say it's 'unconstitutional'. Any appeal would go to the infamous 9th Circuit Court.
Best hope for this nation right now: Republicans capture the House in November, then Zero and Biden have simultaneous fatal heart attacks. The Speaker of the House then becomes President.
True. I have an obama-bot relative in CA. He wants free everything, is a fan of Michael Moore, Keith Olbermann, etc.
But, he shits bricks when I mention illegals from south of the border. He wants to put them all on a freight train and ship them back. That's why the initiative process might work in CA. They should propose the initiative in the form of an amendment to the CA constitution. Then it can't be overridden by any court.
Perry already said he would not do one but you never know. Texas, BTW, is way down there in terms of the severity of the problem. CA is first and AZ in the top three.
Ice Chief better do his job or start lookin for a new one!
RE: “I wish California would join AZ but it will never happen”

I wouldn’t be so sure either == CA is a huge state, should have been split into three states long ago. Big cities like S.F. and L.A. have blathered on about illegals’ rights but smaller towns like Costa Mesa in Orange County refuse to go along. I believe I heard Pasadena voted NO on any AZ boycott as well.
This could easily catch on. More citizens than you know are fed up with this, especially in a state that is BROKE. We can’t afford anything here much less all the giveaways to illegals.
That stunt by the “Dream” students — illegals at UCLA and their sympathizers — of blocking Wilshire Blvd. mid day on a weekday — did not win them ANY friends. And I know several lifelong leftists here in L.A. who are very anxious to get rid of all the illegals.
It’ll be tough, but there could be significant changes in CA as well as other states.
Fill up a 2 mile long train of boxcars full of illegal aliens. Pushed by 4 diesel-electric locomotives. Decouple them 10 miles from the border. And walk away.
MORE proof there really is a God!
Florida needs to be on that list...
A dem anti-war protest might have the same people as show up for "gay pride"... or save the whales.... meeting.
Take pictures and send them to FOX.
