Jerome R. Corsi : '2nd face' on Shroud points to supernatural origin
Catholic Online ^ | April 28 2010 | Jerome R. Corsi

Fanti and Maggiolo concluded the shroud image was created by a "corona discharge," understood as a radiant burst of light and energy that scorched the body image of the crucified man on the topmost fibers of the shroud's front and back sides, without producing any image on the centermost of its linen fibers.

"Imagine slicing a human hair lengthwise, from end to end, into 100 long thin slices; each slice one-tenth the width of a single red blood cell," writes Daniel Porter, editor of ShroudStory.com. "The images on the Shroud of Turin, at their thickest, are this thin."

Fanti and Maggiolo found the faint image of the face on the reverse side of the shroud contained the same 3D information contained in the face and body image of the crucified man seen on the shroud's front side.

LOL — I can totally picture that! And, your description of how women react when seeing someone who is loved and missed is spot on (being a female I can attest to these feelings myself - don’t forget the screaming, laughing, and crying - all at the same time - as well!).

I never gave much thought to this specific part of scripture before. Definitely a fascinating subject in light of some of this scientific research into the shroud.

[Given that Hawking has basically come out and announced his belief in God (via his supposition that aliens may be demons) I wonder if these two things have anything to do with one another. I would no doubt guess that Hawking is aware of this work as it applies to Quantum Physics studies.]

Thanks for your original post and reply. This is a fascinating subject to me.

By the way, as the survivor of childhood abuse I find your use of the horror of incest as some kind of a comeback as particularly despicable, frankly. Why in the world would you even THINK of that issue in comparison to Idol Worship? That’s the question I’d be asking myself if I were you, frankly...

That would not be the face of Jesus today....you’ll find His discription in the first chapter of revelations as he is now.

Yes indeed - John 20:16 "Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher)." - from that passage it was certainly obvious as to what was coming next!

Interestingly, the chapter was silent about any "ran to" "embrace", "clasping" or such, just Jesus saying something akin to a "stop right there!".

My ideas about that dialogue between Jesus and Mary is just conjecture on my part and proves nothing one way or the other, really. But being the techno geek that I am, it's always made me scratch my head and go "Hmm..".

The Shroud is similar to the search for the ark, and all that has been of days gone by, various relics unearthed or deemed ‘Holy’ ....somehow people have a need for something tangible to reinforce their faith...something to hold onto rather than belief when one cannot see proof. Human nature does not change much....

Regardless, the nature of the Shroud can be determined empirically with a degree of probability. That degree is determined by each individual's knowledge of the empirical evidence regarding the Shroud.

Interestingly enough, it is possible to regard the Shroud's origin as miraculous, based on a scientific study of the Shroud, without accepting the Shroud as the burial cloth of Christ. That final step requires a (small) leap of faith. In fact, a Jew, Barre Schwortz (sp?), who runs the Shroud of Turin web site, takes just such a position.

Others prefer to look at those of the household of faith...and though these people we read of in the biblical writings had no proof whatsoever..believed non-the-less. Heroes of faith says it well, and they can teach us all what a walk of faith is about.

It seems like you are opposed, in principle, to Jesus providing us empirical evidence of His existence/Resurrection.

But not this kind of image. It has yet to be replicated.

Why would anybody want to reproduce such a poor and degraded image?

Because I’ve not seen, even among the FReepers silly enough to not vote against Barack Obama, any FReeper ever stupid enough to be an idolator. So the issues are equally relevant. They are both the very wrong thing to do, and are not germane to the discussion at hand. Any one stupid enough to worship the shroud itself isn’t here.

......”witness one of Christ’s “signs” (the burial cloth) and went home to tell their family and friends about it”.......( and btw there were two)

no, they did not go home to tell them they found ‘IT’....they went to tell them what Jesus said to tell them...”tell them I am returning to my father, and your father,to my God, and your God”. Mary didn't need a sign ...she talked directly with Him....."I have seen the Lord." Further no one payed any attention to the linen pieces except for knowing that they were laying there....again the focus was on the fact He had indeed risen....they didn't even take them with them...why would they need to....they saw something far more amazing...Christ and the two gleaming witnesses...who put no significance in the burial cloths either.......and neither should we.

Your avoiding the question.....what information do they expect to retrieve from this study? Are they seeking to prove Christ died and use this as evidence? At this point all they are doing is dating a piece of fabric and determining it’s substance. So what are they anticipating in their end result?

I think he said he had not yet ascended to the Father. To not be touched by human before ascension must have been important.. (I think, unless my memory is short circuiting again due to old timer disease)

Well, Jesus had not yet ascended when he invited Thomas to examine his hands and to put his own hand in his wounded side.

........”It seems like you are opposed, in principle, to Jesus providing us empirical evidence of His existence/Resurrection.”...........

The evidence has already been shown.....He wasn’t there....He showed Himself to Mary, his followers, and hundreds of others before He left...and they saw Him leave.

It goes back to what I said before....some will not believe the written record nor care to look. But they will believe because a piece of cloth that might have been used to bury Him in?????? Do you see my point?

I have no problem with the discovery of ancient relics which give us insight into prior cultures etc. What I do have issue with is when these are used to distract or pull away those from seeking Christ...to something else...you already have the Alien issue being brought up. And we are going to see more and more of the “supernatural” elements being hinged into Christianity...and that not of the good kind.

And you're choosing to ignore the response I had in post #106.

So what are they anticipating in their end result?

What are you doing asking me that for? Contact the researchers and ask them.

Actually He took the time to carefully pack them up again, even rolling up the one around His head. You make your bed because you intend to be back in your bedroom later in the day - I doubt Jesus planned to use the burial clothes again. Yet He chose not to make them look discarded.

and my church has a stained glass window so depicting him - with White Hair - and so he is in Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet" -

But here, we are talking about the man in the Shroud - as He was then...

and Peace be unto you...
