LOL! “there was some ‘boozing’ going on here at Amy’s place. Does she know about this?”

Tee hee. Nan, yes, Amy knows - she has a ‘cyber’ margarita, when she gets a chance. LOL!! The ‘cyber’ bar and drinks are safe and non-alcoholic. (And, it’s a good thing.)

I have been teary eyed all weekend - thinking of what my dear, late husband went through to get two purple hearts, and the Navy Cross, so many years ago.

I hope you get the chance to read through the posts today, and click on some of the links. There are some very touching stories and music.

You said, “off to hubby’s church for a Gospel sing.” I love Gospel music - I think I will say ‘good-night’ now, and turn on some Bill Gaither music. Soul Soothing music.

Night, Nan. I’m glad you had a busy, but spirit-filled day. ((((Hugs))))

Remember The Sacrifice

Every Memorial Day, we remember those who have died in the service of their country. In the United States, a place where such remembrances carry a deep and emotional significance is Arlington National Cemetery, near Washington, DC. Arlington is a serious place where, due to the passing of aging war veterans and the ongoing conflicts around the world, there are currently about 25 military funerals every day.

This is particularly difficult for The Old Guard—members of the 3rd US Infantry Regiment who serve at Arlington. It is their task to bear the bodies of the fallen and honor their sacrifice. The members of The Old Guard never forget the price of liberty—for they are reminded of it every day.

Believers in Christ have been given the Lord’s Supper as a reminder of what our freedom from sin cost the Lord Jesus Christ. As we partake of the bread and the cup, we fulfill His command to “do this in remembrance of Me” (1 Cor. 11:24). But in the sober celebration of the sacrifice of Christ there is joy. For we need not leave our remembrances at the Lord’s Table. Living our lives for the Savior can show the world that we will never forget the sacrifice He has made for us.

Thank You, Lord, for dying for me
On the cross of Calvary;
Help me always to remember
What You did to set me free. —Sper

Remembering Christ’s death for us should cause us to live for Him.
Read: 1 Cor. 11:23-34
Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me. —1 Corinthians 11:24

2 Chronicles 13-14; John 12:1-26

~Remembering Those Who Gave All~

Honor Is Due By WayzataJOHNN

Do you remember how He wept in the garden, filled with strife
Even as His Disciples slept away the waning hours of His life
Did He cry for all who would become lost along the narrow way
And those who in some final moment courageous their very lives pay

If He could, why can’t we, do something as simple as feel that need
Are we so stunted in our souls we honor not another’s very last deed
Save me from such a shallow world, rather I would remember them
For they are the very best of a Nation’s children, hence honor stems

I pause to remember, for I too walked the ways of war and strife
I lost good friends to that madness, saw the end of a cherished life
Pause to reflect on the debt one owes to all who fell as in Grace
And know the fallen have stood before His loving gentle face.

Thank you, Meg, for your lovely post to honor our military heroes. Young Barbara Bush is speaking on Cspan 1 right now. She is President of Global Health Corps. Both those daughters are turning out to be good representatives and speakers for their interests. I know President Bush and First Lady Laura are proud parents.

Remembering our military on this Memorial Day.
Today reminds us that FReedom isn't Free as we remember
and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We visited three cemetaries yesterday; so many flags!
What a beautiful sight.
As we were placing flowers on the graves, Marissa discovered a headstone that read WWI veteran.
She grabbed some flowers and placed them on his grave.
I almost told her she couldn't do that because we didn't know him.
Instead, I told her that was a lovely way of rememberting that he fought for our freedoms.

I'm going to read the rest of yesterday's wonderful tributes and have breakfast.
I will be back later.

Thank you for sharing your tributes.

If you are interesting the Memorial Day Service is starting at Arlington now. I will miss President Bush so much. Not excited over O skipping this (even though I don't like to hear him speak) but old Biden will be there. Maybe he'll put a foot in his mouth today.

God Bless Our Military every minute of every day regardless who is President.

GOOD MILITARY MONDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

The Soldier’s Code

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, August, 1955.

Mornin’ Amy and Company.

Normally I would venture forth and attend a few Memorial Day services in our area, but this year I’m limited due to recovery. My heart will be there honoring the fallen.

REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHER!

Cpl. Jacob C. Leicht, USMC, KIA Afghanistan 27MAY2010

I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

Eternal Father, Strong to Save

Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in peace!
We who remain hold you in high honor.
Rest, fallen brother, in this sacred precinct;
We who remain keep this place sacred.
Rest, fallen brother, among these, your comrades;
We who remain keep the watch.
Rest, fallen brother, amid these who heeded the Nation’s call;
We who remain press the fight forward in your name.
Rest, fallen brother, lay down thy burden;
We who remain have taken up the torch.
Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in eternal peace!
