Hi, Nan! Someone once told me that if you put animal fur (esp. dog) into their hole, the will move far, far away, because they fear they will be caught by a canine!

So, I went to the groomers and brought back two trash bags full of dog fur! I stuffed that smelly stuff into every hole I could find. The next day, it was all gone. (I think they pulled it into their caverns to use for nesting material - for the 50 babies they would be having!)

I have put Ex-Lax, chewing gum, corn-meal and plaster of paris into the holes - but still no luck.

My neighbors paid a small fortune to ‘professional mole eradicators’, and they STILL have problems.

I think they are next to impossible to get rid of!

You are so right - 'things don't always work the way we wish'.......but if we don't try to make them work the way we want them to, we will always regret it. We will always wonder ............... could it have worked?

And, thank you for the sweet compliment, Potlatch. That really touched me!

LOL. I agree. So, I was looking for your WV dream cabin. I think this one would do nicely.

And here is the view from the porch.

Potlatch, I had a dream that just made me wake up with a smile every morning. I refused to let it go. I reached to the ends of the earth for it - and it was a hard, rocky road.

But it became 'reality'! OMG, I held on to it sooooo tight - and realized the importance of 'not giving up on your dreams'! It changed my life. In so many wonderful ways!

Now, that 'smile from the dream' is a 'smile in REALITY!'

You betcha there’s Bass in those waters, and Trout too. You could plant all the Weeping Willows you want. They grow like weeds here.

I'll be there! And fill the place with picnic tables, and bird baths, bird feeders, bird houses and a huge grill for all the steaks, ribs, chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers I will be fixin'!

And, I'll dess all the fish I catch, and put lemon, fresh dill, butter and onion in the middle, wrap them tightly in foil an throw them on the grill with the fresh picked corn on the cob!

One thing I LOVED about W VA was the wild berries, which I picked for hours, when they were ripe and ready. The blackberries were as big as my thumb, and made a cobbler that could only be made in W VA! And the black raspberries mad the best jelly I have ever tasted!

Berries will be ripening before too long. With that I must say goodnight. It’s late here. God bless and give you rest.

RE: "war is war"

We've had good luck with 'Cinch' style traps on gophers and, to some extent, with moles. Our gophers are smaller here (5-7 inches), so we most often use the smaller size cinch traps usually sold in pairs for moles.

Day Of Good News
We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. —2 Kings 7:9

My Australian friend Graham wasn’t born blind. He was blinded by a freak accident at age 9. Yet he never felt sorry for himself. Wherever he went, he shared what Jesus Christ meant to him. His last trip was to Thailand as a practicing physiotherapist. Besides using his professional skills there, he wanted to share the gospel of Christ.

The four lepers in 2 Kings 7 had some good news to share as well. They had stumbled into the Syrian camp and found it deserted. After helping themselves to the food and loot, they remembered the starving people of Samaria, shut in as a result of a Syrian siege. Their response was: “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent” (v.9). So they went and told their fellow Israelites about the provisions.

Despite their physical and social disadvantages, both Graham and the lepers thought about others. They were thankful for what they had found and considered it too good to keep to themselves.

Do you know someone who needs to know what Jesus has done? Don’t make excuses for what you lack in abilities. Instead, share the good news of what the Lord has done for you, and your life will take on new purpose.

Help us, Lord, to be a lifeline
To a dying world today,
Bringing hope to hopeless people,
Telling them that Christ’s the way. —Sper

When we are thankful for what we have, we want to share it with others.

We had Boston Market TV dinners as we had nothing thawed for cooking after being gone 5 days, and sure didn’t fell up to getting into the car and going out again even for a pizza. I slept in to 8 am this morning!

“There WILL be lots of jobs in AZ, if the border gets at least HALF closed.”

Well, that sounds like a good deal for Arizona! (No blizzards! Oh now you have me!)

“(But, I’m gonna kill me some MOLES - I think they are criminals and here illegally!)”

We rent a large CO2 extinguisher, (the kind on wheels) and have the extinguisher company deliver it with a long hose. We put the hose into the mole hole, cover it, and turn the gas on, the hole is filled with CO2 and displaces the oxygen. No more moles and no harm to the lawns and landscaping. (By the way, this same trick works on wasp and hornet nests, be they under the eves or in the foundation!)

A nifty note on the wild pigs, a lot of companies sell ‘bird bombs’ a legal form of fire cracker that really makes a boom. A buddy of mine used them down in Texas to scare the pigs off his land. Waited until they were really into snacking on the shrubs, and tossed one out into the yard. The blast had the pigs in a panic, one even did a ‘keystone kops’ routine bouncing off a car tire trying to beat a fast path back to the scrub. He didn’t see them again for nearly a month. One more ‘treatment’ and they didn’t come back! (Insert evil grin here)
