Is it possible to love an animal?

Is it possible to actually "love" an animal- like a cat or dog? Any Freepers love their pet? How about those with non-traditional pets? Anyone love their cow, horse, snake or pig?

It's likely directly related to the need the animal has to be near us that draws us to them. It's rather ego driven, I suspect.a

Perhaps in some cases. However, a lot of altruism and unmet ego satisfactions must enter into loving many animals.

I have a wonderful dog whom I cherish and love. I also have another one who is pathetic and a real pain in the neck, but I love her nonetheless (though nowhere near as much as I love my main dog). And my horse can do nothing in the way of gratifying my ego, as she definitely doesn't love me, alone among all the horses I've had. But nonetheless I love her with the altruistic love of a mother, I pity her, and I do my best for her in all ways. I content myself with small gestures of concern on her part but she does not feed my ego with doglike behavior.

I know you will see your dog again. I was very lucky not to have to wait. It changed my life and my husband’s. If I explain it, you wouldn’t believe it - just as I wouldn’t have believed it a few years ago.

I love a dog. He does nothing for political reasons.

I think Age of Reason mistook the boxers for pitbulls, and wanted to get his licks in...Unless you think boxers are unstoppable killing machines too, AoR?

Yep, Boxers are often mistook for pitbulls. Especially my Diego pictured. I was just going to ignore him.

That’s not love, the guy had no prior relationship with the horse. It was merely a “one night stand”...duh...

All you said plus how hard you cry when you have to put one down.......and how they are missed...If someone started to abuse my dog, I would sure as hell fight for her.

I wasn’t “allowed”, our Irish Setter got out and it was my job to find her...Found her sitting in the middle of a quite busy street with both lanes of traffic stopped and she was shaking like a leaf...If I had to go get her and dodge traffic I would have...(even tho she did nip me a couple of times in the past. Was 12 at the time..That area in detroit is now expressway I-75 Now a days no one would stop, just run her over...

I have this weird idea that no one will probably agree with..I found out when I had 5 rug rats and 1 sent one for a couple of days with grandma and grandma, even thou I still had 4 at home, the house felt empty...

I figured that when one person leaves the house their spirit also goes with them, the house if filled up with the spirits of all living in that house and we don't realize the spirit is there along with the physical person (or dog)

When Our animal is gone, the house has an spirit gone that we are use to having in the house...Thats the way even with a large family when one if off visiting...

We can somehow feel the spirit that lived there and is now gone

Does this make sense to anyone except me?
