Kick-Ass has already been condemned in some quarters due to its violence and the character of Hit Girl, a 10-year-old girl who curses like a sailor and leaves a trail of dead bodies.
But it's far from the only sci-fi or fantasy film to have created controversy. Check out 15 more examples of sci-fi flak below.

Well, one positive thing I saw from Jar-Jar was that his appearance is how I learned that George Lucas is, like me, a fan of Buster Keaton. In the big battle scene of Phantom Menace, there are three specific Jar-Jar gags lifted directly from Keaton films. A fourth turned up in the next SW movie, but didn’t involve Jar-Jar, and was actually spun as a dramatic moment instead of being used as a slapstick gag.
A lot of people have a fetish about putting children in adult situations.
It turns them on.
Hollyweird especially.
All your base are belong to us.
One thing though, I have never seen “The life of Brian.” I refuse. It is sort of on the order of Sam Kinison and his jokes about the crucifixion, simply obnoxious for no other purpose than just being so.
I have been told that I should see it, but I simply cannot bring myself to do so.
I did see the “Last Temptation of Christ” and the critics of that film were simply not rational. The film made some profound observations. “Fully man” and such. Folks do not want to hear it. Go figure.
Dogma was the most outrageous film that I have ever seen, bar none. I would not want to stand on a bent knee defending that abomination on the big day.
There is a place for film and even for outrageous commentary, but also there are such things as common sense, modesty, good will, and decency.
Some of the films that I have seen and/or read about go way beyond defense in our civilization.
It is just odd.
I'm Catholic. It's satire and it's damn funny.
that many saw as racist ... among them the big-nosed, venal slave owner Watto and the bumbling, mock-Jamaican Jar Jar.
Some people take movies much too seriously.
I saw “The Life Of Brian” and I thought it was a funny movie and I didn’t see what was the big deal..
Mesa dinks Jar-Jar blowin dee chunkies.
Okay daysee eh,,,
Agreed. It was satire, and non-offensive satire at that.
I saw one of the uncensored previews for Kick-Ass. I’m sure Brad Pitt and the rest behind this movie knew exactly what kind of response they would get all in the name of their idea of what “art” is and selling tickets.
Take this heavily scripted scene for maximum shock effect.
Scene opens with Nic Cage standing about 15 feet from his 10 year old daughter. He starts giving her a speech about how she needs to learn how to take a bullet.
She’s standing there dressed as a young girl with jeans and a pink jacket.
He then aims the gun and fires at her, hits her right in the chest, and she slams backward onto the ground.
As she’s gasping for air and struggling with pain on the ground, he walks over laughing as he opens up her jacket to now show the audience she has a bullet proof vest on.
Then he proceeds to tell her they are going to have to do this two more times, and she starts negotiating with him about getting ice cream afterwards.
In many scenes in the movie, she drops F and C bombs, and murders dozens with guns, knives, and other weapons.
The movie is meant to offend on all levels and thats exactly what the deviants behind this piece of garbage wanted. They hide behind this garbage by claiming its “black comedy”.
Goes to show how far Hollyweird sinks these days for sink sake. Like that other recent “black comedy”, with Seth Rogan were they actually attempted to make date rape a funny subject. Unreal.
>>> I did see the Last Temptation of Christ and the critics of that film were simply not rational
Totally agree, but Falwell never lacked for subjects for his vitriol. It was fair to speculate how Jesus might have fantasized about living the normal life of a man, but in the end still chooses to meet his ordained fate. The scriptures are respected and not rewritten, unlike the Richard Gere movie as King David where it ends with David rejecting God.
But really you should see the Python movie. It’s not as bad as you imagine and is utterly hilarious.
the phanthom menace sucked on so many levels....
like the ‘revisionist history’ Lucas used to change a scene and make Han shoot, not first, but second....(or speilbergs ET where the FBI agents shotguns morphed into walkie talkies for a re-release).
The cartoonish buffoon, gay jamaican charater of Jar jar was nothing compared to the boring dialog filled (think senate) phanthom menace. And when it finally gets to the big battle scene...Lucas in his pre-visionist history, replaces living beings with DROIDS. Except for Qui-Gon Jinn, very few living beings died...kind of a Lucas version of ‘The A Team’
bump
Let the flames begin.
its about Brian, who is born around the time that Christ was born, but except for a brief interlude during the sermon on the mount, does not bring Christ into it.
It is hilarious in so many ways.
you have to realize that the Romans killed many thousands, by crucifixion, of those who refused to succumb to Roman rule. it was not the exclusive fate of Jesus Christ.
‘The Life of Brian’ has some language & nudity that you’d expect for an R-rated film, but there’s nothing in it that mocks Christ. In fact I only recall 3 times that the movie even touched on Jesus, and He was not the butt of the joke in any instance. At the beginning, the wise men get confused and go to the wrong house (Brian’s) before realizing their mistake and going on to where the infant Jesus is. At the Sermon on the Mount you briefly see Jesus preaching from a distance, and it’s played straight (in fact, he gives a forceful, no-nonsense delivery of the Beatitudes, much better than the hippie Jesus you see in some portrayals). The third is Brian’s encounter with an “ex-leper” who Jesus had healed, who is unhappy because being perfectly healthy and able-bodied has made his begging gig harder.
That scene is going to get someone killed.
Kids will mimic what they see in movies.
And bullet”proof” vests are less so than kids realize.
Battle Royale is a pretty crazy flick.
