>>... (and then) sent to the great Sea of Muqed, they reached the mountains of Punt without any misfortune befalling them.<<

It would seem to rule out Ethiopia. Ethiopia is landlocked.

I wonder if "Punt" is the same as the "Put" referred to in the Bible:

Cush and Put, Lydia and all Arabia, Libya and the people of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt.
Ezek 30:5 (NIV)

1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 "Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him 3 and say: 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army--your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops--the many nations with you.
Ezek 38:1-6 (NIV)

I know where Punt is. It’s right next to Pass and just down the road from Kick.

It seems unlikely that, during the long history of pre-Roman Egypt, somebody didn’t venture along the African coastline far to the south and also into southern Asia. And, of course, the cocaine found in the mummies of the pharoahs suggests ventures to South America.

I thought Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, was the Land of Punt.
