FORT WORTH, Texas A Texas man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for leaving his baby alone with his psychotic wife, who drowned their son in a hot tub.
Michael Maxon appears to be the first husband held criminally responsible in Texas cases involving mentally ill women who have killed their children, said prosecutor Alana Minton.

I am all for jailing these mothers. If they need to be in a mental ward forever so be it. If you are going to jail this man then I think Rusty Yates needs to go to jail also. You make some good points FRiend.
FORT WORTH -- State District Judge Wayne Salvant sentenced a Mansfield man to 10 years in prison on Thursday for leaving his 1-year-old son alone with his mentally ill wife, who drowned the boy because she believed that he was the Antichrist. .....On Jan. 29, a Tarrant County jury took less than 30 minutes to convict Maxon of abandoning his son, Alex, and placing him in imminent danger of death or serious injury. Despite warnings from mental health professionals, Maxon left his wife, Valeria Maxon, alone with the infant for about 11/2 hours on June 30, 2006.
Clearly concerned about the speed of the jury's verdict, Maxon's attorney, Jack Strickland, asked Salvant to assess Maxon's punishment. He had previously asked the jury to decide the sentence....
The judge said he was disturbed that Maxon still doesn't believe that he is responsible for his son's death. "You said over and over that you didn't do anything wrong," Salvant said. "I want you to understand that you did. I hope that someday you realize the seriousness of your case and what your actions caused."

Mansfield man gets 10 years in wife's drowning of son
The whole lot of them should either have been in daycare or in a relative’s care (obviously better if available) during all hours that their father wasn’t home. Leaving young children at home with a patently insane mother makes no more sense than hiring a nanny who you know to be currently suffering from full-blown insanity and leaving the kids with her all day while both parents go off to work. Crazy people are not able to care for young children.
This is a side flank tackling against homeschooling and for courts to be in the business of mothering when the mother is crazy instead of putting her away.
This is your feminist governance looking for ways to pimp families. You can tell courts a spouse is not capable of taking of children because he/she is crazy, and see how well that goes. No matter what you do, it’s your fault for not paying family services their pimp dues to take care of your children.
It is simply not humanly possible for a human being to monitor someone else 24/7.
Why lock up the husband when she should have been locked up in the first place?
“I have little tolerance anymore for people with mental conditions. Too many of my friends have them & half the time I think they are addicted to the anti depressants.”
I have little tolerance as well, and less for the Psychiatrists/Psycologists ‘treating’ them. Many of them are psychotic for attention. Many are hooked on the drugs the psychiatrists push. Many are hooked on their ‘disability’ check.
If they were institutionalized in a prison-like atmosphere w/o benefit of drugs, many would recover quickly. Some may not, then we know who they are and can properly treat them.
In this case the husband should probably have left with the baby. The only problem with that, of course, is ‘irresponsible’ child welfare people are apt to then award custody to the mother. It happens more than not, and these incompetent child welfare people are stupid, PC idiots with a leftist bent.
Some people don’t understand that many insane peopel are skilled at planning things out and being deceptive. Andrea was planning on killing her kids, that’s why she locked the house up so the kids wouldn’t get away.
This woman is the same. She didn’t have empathy or natural love for her child. Some people are plain evil.
You sure are big on Big Brother running everybody’s life for them,, aren’t you?
I think you’re right. There’s no real reason to prosecute the husband.
Many are hooked on their disability check.
Exactly. Most of my friends except for one are on SSI. If they had to get out of the house & engage with people I think a few of them might get better.
Wow. Just dayum. Do the courts even begin to realize how much of normal human female behavior is indistinguishable from crazy? How on Earth are all men expected to be capable of policing women?
My brother is mentally ill and has been for over thirty years. He is not “hooked” on being disabled, he is disabled. He is not addicted to seeing a doctor, he must see a doctor in order to get his medications. He is not living off of disability like he has never worked before, or like he is not truly disabled. He did hold jobs frequently during his first thirty years of life, but lacked the mental functioning to continue on when his illness would interfere with simple every day functioning. This is a man who cannot watch a one hour television program because his brain cannot process that much information, he hasn’t read a book in decades. He became mentally ill as a teenager and has had lived his entire adult life as a schizophrenic. He is considered a “high functioning” schizophrenic but still lives on the edges of society, no matter how he has stuggled.
Your lack of understanding of the mentally ill and empathy for them is breathtaking.
No, I wouldn’t.
I guess I’m just disagreeing with the rulings that he should pay and his wife get off because she’s *mentally ill*.
She did the deed. That makes her guilty, her mental state notwithstanding.
To me it looks more like what others have mentioned, that someone is frustrated that the wife got off on an insanity plea and they’re looking for someone to blame.
People who are truly sick I have nothing but prayers for. Those who are truly disabled should get the best care we can give them. I am sorry you feel I have no empathy & a lack of understanding toward the mentally ill. However I feel you are wrong & didn't understand who I was posting about. I do feel if you kill & are crazy that you do belong locked away.
Thanks :-) Yes, I’ve always thought it was a travesty of justice that Rusty Yates wasn’t charged and convicted. Instead he went on his merry way, joining a church “singles” group while he was still legally married to Andrea, and eventually remarried (to a divorcee with children of her own, and he promptly got her pregnant, of course). Apparently he conveniently modified his extreme fundamentalist Christian religious beliefs so that marriage went from “til death do us part” to “til wife going insane do us part” and “who cares about a woman’s marital history if I want to marry her”. The new wife must be very nearly as crazy as Andrea to have married this guy.
You have “empathy” but toss about the word “crazy” with such callousness.
I’m sorry I engaged you in discussion. You are truly turning my stomach, now.
Good evening.
Really? Wow you must have a weak stomach then. It turns my stomach when a child is killed by a crazy woman. Enjoy your night.
Presumably because they believed the father was a responsible adult. The father was responsible for finding appropriate childcare and unfortunately, he failed. In light of his situation, maybe they should examine this man to see if he has any loose screws. What a nutjob!
