Stupak Abortion Language to Be Substituted for Senate Language in Deal to Secure Health Care Votes

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made a deal with Rep. Bart Stupak in order to secure his vote and that of other anti-choice Democrats for the health care bill, which is scheduled to be voted on this Sunday. According to a member of Congress who was briefed on the matter, Pelosi has agreed to let Stupak have a vote on his amendment, which instructs the Senate to substitute his language for the Senate language on abortion.

FDL has obtained a copy of the concurrent resolution (PDF1, PDF2, PDF3, PDF4), which includes cosponsors Marion Berry, Sanford Bishop, Joseph Cao, Kathy Dahlkemper, Steve Driehaus, Marcy Kaptur, Dan Lipinski, Alan Mollohan, and Nick Rahall. A second source confirms that with the exception of Cao, these are the members of Congress who are still on the fence. Cao is still considered a firm “no” vote.

The deal calls for Stupak to have a vote on his amendment either before or after the House votes to confirm the Senate bill on Sunday. Stupak is confident that he has the votes to pass the measure, and is happy to have the vote after the House passes the Senate bill. He believes that by using a “tie bar” approach, his amendment would be “tied” to the health care bill — which would require just 51 votes in the Senate

Pelosi feels she has enough votes to keep Stupak language out...per Fox News.

Their objective is to wreck the current system. Short run, Insurance companies will benefit ... but then fold within 5 to 10 years when Government crushes them.

Government will control all health care within 10 years. We will have a Cuban medical system by 2020.

Our President is a communist piece of shit. A communist Nazi thug.

This is all BS. Stupak needs cover on the abortion issue, and Pelosi is giving it to him. Remember, Stupak is all for the rest of this monstrosity. This ridiculous "amendment," like all the other "amendments", will never see the light of day, once the House votes to approve the Senate bill as is. We may never hear the words "health care" uttered again, except by angry republicans. The 'rats will want to bury it and move on and the media whorehouse will collude with them.

Since when does the Senate follow the instructions of the House?

Eggsackly. The next time will be the first.

I believe that people will kill their entire families before they ever think about rising up against this tyrant...but that’s just my cynicism.

They must pass the senate bill to amend it. Unless the Slaughter House rule is abandoned, tomorrow's vote is about the passage of the senate bill plus a companion bill of House amendments/changes. Obama can sign the Senate bill as the law of the land and the fight over the Stupak amendment will be waged in the Senate.

The reality is that once the House passes the bill tomorrow, we have national health care. The rest is just about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic

I don’t believe that. I heard that too on FOX news. If she had those votes, she’d be calling for the vote now. She’d be replacing Stupak’s press conference with her own.

save a trip. It is old news and any “deal” that was there is now gone according to FX and NRO. I am been trying to tell people, but they don’t listen.

I agree...just reporting what I heard. She is such a snake and if she did have the votes, would not waste a single second to get in front of the cameras.

So they put the language in, Stupak folds and votes for it. The $h!thead in the White House signs it and then they vote to change Stupak's language. That bill gets passed and the same $h!thead signs it into law.

This is simple stuff people.

I believe Rush discussed this a week or so ago - the Republican's in Senate should state NOW that they will NOT vote for this. That, by tieing this together with the rest of the health care bill, Bart Stupak and his supporters (not Republicans in the Senate) will be taking FULL RESPONSIBILITY for the abortions to follow. Dems hope to put Republicans in the position of voting against an amendment to restrict Federal funding of abortion.

Declare NOW that if this happens, Stupak will be responsible for the abortions.

just because stupak is promised a change of language in the senate bill doesn’t mean its going to happen’

Likely pelosi is telling the pro abort dems that she’s going to do a bait and switch on stupak — so they need not be alarmed.

she’s hoping to fool both.

It would be wise to tell both camps of how pelosi will operate.

My family will rise against this tyranny with dignity.
The government will be the killer, and my conscience will be clear knowing a few thugs went down also. No passing of righteous people will be in vain over the blood of tyrants.

How has the deals been removed when they are still pushing the same bill as before? All the talk about removing deals is hyperbole. Nothing has been amended or reintroduced, or voted upon that had made even the slightest change of what was passed by either the Senate, or the House.

It’s a shell game. Don’t ever take your eye off of the ball.

"Declare NOW that if this happens, Stupak will be responsible for the abortions."

Right to Life is about MORE than abortions. It is also about the existence of "Death Panels" for the elderly, which are part of the health care bill which Stupak would be voting for. If Republican's do not declare NOW that they will not vote for the Stupak amendment (in Senate bill form), they will be aiding the "Death Panel" health care plan. Republican Senators should say NO to "Death Panels" and let Stupak bear the abortion burden. BUT THEY HAVE TO SAY IT NOW!

After reading FDL, it sounds like the libturds are getting a lil upset over this. Could the addition of the Stupak language to the bill be its demise due to pro-abortion Dims voting against it?

Are things beginning to turn in our favor? Earlier this AM I heard on FOX that the Dims have more than the necessary 216 votes that are needed to pass it.
