I saw Juliet Low’s birthplace in Savannah, GA. I was a proud Brownie and then an even prouder Girl Scout all of my childhood years. What a wonderful organization it was, and I have nothing but fond memories of my time in the Scouts.
I learned so much from that organization, patriotism, poise, self-confidence, loyalty, friendship, the list goes on and on.
I forgot to add that my mom was a Girl Scout troop leader. I learned so much as a Brownie/Scout and all my little friends in my neighborhood were all in the troop too. It was so much fun as a kid and it was fun to earn one’s badges. Very occasionally you would find a kid who was a member of the Bluebird/Campfire Girls. They were few and far between in the neighborhood of my youth, but they did exist as an alternative organization to the Brownie/Girl Scouts.
It was my first introduction to spanish moss and was an in-depth study of antebellum architecture. It was an embarassment to the Gordon family that Sherman knew them, but it was in large part due to the relationship between the Gordons and Sherman that he didn’t burn and pillage like he did the rest of Georgia.
