I forgot to add that my mom was a Girl Scout troop leader. I learned so much as a Brownie/Scout and all my little friends in my neighborhood were all in the troop too. It was so much fun as a kid and it was fun to earn one’s badges. Very occasionally you would find a kid who was a member of the Bluebird/Campfire Girls. They were few and far between in the neighborhood of my youth, but they did exist as an alternative organization to the Brownie/Girl Scouts.

Did you ever make those buddy burners and something logs which were torn newspaper, rolled up, tied with string and coated in parafin? I have started more fires in the worst rains with those things. I still try to keep some around.
