My CA taxes shot up this year (vanity)
3/2/2010 | Self

Posted on 03/02/2010 7:22:07 PM PST by Signalman

This year, my household income was fairly close to last year's. And because of some capital losses I incurred when I sold some stock mutual funds, my adjusted gross was actually less than last year. I'm getting a tidy sum back from the feds but the state of Calif. is socking it to me for a lot more than what I paid last year. Have any of you CA Freepers noticed a significant increase in your state income taxes this year? I've got to get out of this state.

Nope. Just send mine in and there was no difference.
Still would like to go, but just moved to Santa Barbara......really nice here.

EVERYONE (in CA) is in for a nasty surprise on taxes this year - and it's going to get worse... much worse.

That's why around 75K to 100 thousand people are fleeing CA every month - and MUCH fewer are coming.

You could always move here to Michigan, you can get a rather nice house for $500 a month.

Problem is good luck on finding a minimum wage job to pay the rent.

I had the EXACT same situation. Large refund from the feds, large payment to the state of CA

Yeah, that's true. But a lot of it is because of the capital losses.

I always got a kick out of people thinking they are lucky, getting a refund back from this big bloated corrupt government...When in reality, they’re only getting back the money big bloated corrupt government took from them in the first place.

I’m in the same boat. 1st time I’ve had to pay CA state taxes in 10 years. Same income as last year when I got a refund.

maybe this is the reason CA lowered the bracket on income so you pay more which bumped more people in higher tax brackets and of course they are borrowing HAHAHAHAH that money from our paycheck what is it every two weeks I think.
They are bleeding us who pay taxes to death.

With all due respect to FReepers in the rest of the country, you may get out of a few taxes in California but you are not going to like the weather elsewhere. Consider it a weather tax.

Our household income fell by almost 3 percent, but our CA taxes increased significantly.

I have a friend that was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey. They rented a UHaul last month to move cross-country. I can't remember the exact amount but UHaul really raked them over the coals for the cost of the trip. Must be a shortage of trucks STAYING or ARRIVING into CA!

Yep you can thank Arnold for the new taxes. Too bad my job is here and with this economy there is not much chance of me finding work elsewhere. Oh well, at least the weather is nice.

My daughter and I left last September (2009). Drove cross country to Indiana.

With all due respect, we moved to Dallas from Southern CA and we love the weather. It’s called seasons. And the heat was no worse than Cali in fact, it doesn’t last as long....it’s over by end of Sept.

And we just loved the White Christmas and cold winter.....Seasons and variety any day over year around heat....

You just have not been there long enough. Our family did the move back east once. Pools are for swimming, not ice skating. Snow is to look at on the top of a mountain, not on the top of your shoes. And what about those tornado spawning thunderstorms, what's up with that! Yikes!
