I have a question for the denizens of Free Republic. Why do so many conservatives consider libertarians to be as bad as liberals? Yes, I realize that libertarians tend to be unrealistically isolationist and don't support the conservative social agenda, but it would seem that we would be natural allies based upon economic policy.
A country where conservatives and libertarians were the two dominant parties wouldn't be a bad thing.
Quite frankly, I don't care how trashy a person is as long as they stay out of my space. Actually, I don't give a damn if you decide to smoke a joint but when people go to murdering unborn babies, we've got a major problem.
You left out muslim.
Good for them. The splinter groups we have here are at EVERY ‘legalize pot’ rally held on campus each week, LOL!
I disagree with them on a number of other things, too.
LOLOLOL. Yes, I took note of your answer.
The downfall of America is hastened by being invaded by third world savages. Ragheads, mexicans, hindus, et al. Libertarian policy is open borders. No thank you.
That affects their ability to deal with other people who think of themselves primarily as Conservatives, let alone those who think of themselves as primarily something else.
I don’t consider Libertarians to be bad. They’re a hell of a lot better than a conservative Democrat. I don’t agree with them 100% but they have a firm grasp on the Constitution and limited government.
Think of it, growing up believing the smartest guy in the world was this heavily bearded, squat, unwashed old man.
Gad! How horribly depressing.
Good question. Neal Boortz claims to be a Libertarian and knows all the players. Usually, most of their candidates have no name recognition.
How can anybody trust libertarians when their favorite
son loads up legislation that he knows will pass and
gives the pork while giggling I voted against it.?
William Redpath is the party chairman. He was a personal financial consultant before taking the reigns of the party. Other than Bob Barr being a figure head as their last major candidate, none of the major players in the LP are recognizable. (not counting media personalities who claim to be Libertarians).
Their “favorite son” doesn’t even have the guts to run as a Libertarian any more by party, he likes that Republican money even while he rails against the two party system. (there is also the whole issue of the fundraising scandal of 1988 and I’m not sure the actual people who run the business of the LP want Paul or Rockwell and company back in).
“open borders”
That’s the biggest problem I have with them.
open borders, this is my house
Very well said indeed, sir. I completely agree. I’ve always been of a mind that people can do what they want, whenever they want; so long as it doesn’t affect my family, friends or myself. 9-11 truthers, anti-military idiots, open boarders types and those who support the legalization of EVERY illegal drug certainly weird most of us (conservatives) out. The whole “pro-choice” thing irks me as well, just not as much as the afore mentioned.
There is a difference.
Yep!
Geraldo Rivera is one!
Me as well. Just as there is a spectrum of Conservatism, there is a spectrum of Libertarianism. You CAN be Libertarian and support the military.
We’re not dumping our opposition to kiddie porn and teaching fisting in kindergarten for anyone.
