I'm thinking about buying this weapon, manufactured by EAA, and from the online reviews I've read, it's pretty accurate and reliable. The price is low ($280) and that has me a bit concerned (not that anything more expensive is necessarily better). I have a max of about $350 I can spend so if you have a better recommendation, it'd be appreciated.
Does anyone own a Windicator, and if so, what is your experience with it?
I'm not going to be entering any shooting competitions and the weapon is for self-defense purposes only.
Thanks in advance.
“I know nothing” about this piece but in that price range I would expect no problem find used Taurii, or better yet used Rugers around. You get what you pay for...
You can get a Rossie .357 in SS for $299 at Academy. A very functional self-defense gun patterned on 1980’s design by SW or Colt.
First revolver I bought was a Rossi .38spl. One of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve put 1000’s of rounds through it since I got it in the ‘80s. Always hits where I aim. Only thing ever went wrong was a broken firing pin about 4 yrs after I bought it. Rossi replaced it for free. Never a prob since.
The windicator is a good gun for the money as are most of the EAA line.It is a bit large, heavy, and a bit “chunky”.I’ve sold hundreds of them over the years and never had one complaint about performance.I would trust my life to a windicator LONG before I’d trust it to a hi-point!
“You can get a new Sigma series S & W for less than $300 but, I was told it is a throw-away weapon by a self-defense intructor/bailsman. They were originally designed to compete with Glock and Sig at a lowere price.”
What did he mean by throw-away? I bought a Sigma .40 last year. It seems decent enough, fits well in my hand and I can shoot it with either hand. I’ve only been able to take it to a range once but it was pretty accurate from 10 yards. The only drawback is that there’s no safety - it’s somehow built into the trigger which requires a little extra pull. I bought a bunch of snap caps so I can practice dry firing.
Each to his own. My wife has a Glock 19 which I find cumbersome to fire/hold. (and I did like the way the Sigma felt)
IIRC, there were some specific issues with firing pins or something but, I moved on and probably looking at one of the Springfield XD models which is as much as a Glock. They have a safety built into the grip. if you're not gripping it, it won't fire.
SP 101 is a good choice. As is a Ruger GP 100. I had the latter gun for years and loved it.
Ok thanks. I was just curious by what he meant. Was not trying to start any kind of argument or anything.
I have a Rossi too, in .357. Stainless steel, long barrel.
Light .38 handloads to start my teenage daughter out, then she worked her way up to .357, but still doesn’t like the recoil. Good gun, good price, bought it used.
Had a chance to buy a CZ 52, cheep, passed it up & could kick myself now!
Is that an endorsement? :)
sure sounds like one to me..:)
Sorry if I sounded *snappy*. Had the flu for several days and not feeling up to par.
I was kind of sad when that guy approached me at the gun store and told what he did.
I had plans to buy that Sigma right then and there.
But Hey, never hurts to hear some professional criticism. LOL!
I wouldn’t be nervous about owning one!
or
Guns you give to the authorities when they come to take them while your *other* guns are securely stashed elsewhere.
or
He merely thought it wasn't a well-made gun.

No problem. I bought mine at Cabelas - it was on sale and was about as much as I could afford for a gun at the time. I wanted a .40 and the other models they had there were above my price range and ammo was scarce and a little expensive as well.
I actually bought a Taurus Millenium PT140, .40...good reviews and a nice gun. Fits my hand perfectly (I have medium to small hands). Gonna clean it then get it out to the range sometime next week. Good price on it too.
bought a windicator last week for $266.00.the barrel end came target crowned but unblued. no biggy some black paint on
a q-tip fixes that. the gun is total quality and is very strong.i,m a pistol shooter and was able to put 6 rds. in 3inches at 100 yds. something this gun should not be capable of with a 2” bbl.i.m impressed with every aspect of this gun and may buy another just to put away.for the money it.s a best buy,by far.i,m shooting speer gold dot hps.said to go 1450fps. 125 grs.next is grips for my big hands.
You must have meant 10 yards, no?
no i meant 100 yds.i,m an ihmsa shooter, long distance pistol.we start at 50 yds finish at 200 yds.you have 40 targets and 40 rounds so if you miss you can,t go back.lots of fun but expensive.
