SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - It's Abraham Lincoln's birthday, and Illinois is celebrating by sealing up a time capsule and taking pictures of life across the state.

Lincoln would have turned 201 today.

To mark the occasion, officials are preparing a time capsule that will be stored at the Lincoln Presidential Library.

It will include items such as birthday cards, photos and documents from the celebration of his 200th birthday.

The time capsule is supposed to be opened in 2109.

The Associated Professional Photographers of Illinois will also help celebrate.

They're shooting Lincoln-themed pictures around the state today and will post the images online.

Abe Lincoln was the devil incarnate and destroyed the USA as established by the FOUNDERS.

WoW tell that to Rush Limbaugh I had no clue how many here do not like Lincoln.

I suspected they would come out of the woodwork, resty.
As you know, some here have even declared Nixon was a RINO... so, Lincoln was probably a RINO also and of course, an evil Yankee.

Never mind that presidents are more often shaped by the times they live in rather than vice versa. Lincoln had to deal with a problem, the threat of disunion, and he did so.

Americans had called for the abolition of slavery since before the Founding Fathers. They hesitated to do so because of the political and economic power of the South. They finally had to call the South’s bluff and bring about the promise of Liberty for All.

Obviously, not All like it but that led to one of Lincoln’s most famous quotes about pleasing all the people all the time......

Obviously history is not your long suit. Simply amazing that someone could have such a narrow view of Abe Lincoln and what he did for this Country.

Looks to me that a few people on here would still favor slavery with some of the comments I am seeing about Lincoln.

I am sitting here shaking my head at some of the comments. Some people are still fighting the Civil War it seems.

Sounds like you have bought the Yankee version of history.
Granted that there were sympathizers for both sides in the North and in the Confederacy.

But you jest about Lincoln’s innocence. OK, he was innocent, if we overlook suspending habeas corpus, arresting the Maryland legislature so they couldn’t for secession, instuted a draft, dictated the SD and NV state Constitutions, disobeyed the Constitution in creating WV and sticking the North with an income tax. As for delivering the mail, Mussolini made Italy’s trains run on time. Is that justification?

Make no mistake about the Confederacy’s will to win. Lee went against his officers who wanted to continue with a guerilla war. I think that we have today another man from IL that has as much regard for the Constitution as did Lincoln.

Just when we need to unite for a 2nd American Revolution. Some things never change, I guess:-)

Too many people are all emotionally bound up in one side or the other from the war between the states. The Confederate states had mostly evil reasons for seceding (slavery) and consequently they are hardly heroic figures, even though some honorable people were on that side. Meanwhile, regardless of their reasons, they did have an absolute right to secede, just as the American colonists did a century before; therefore, the North was absolutely wrong in using violence to prevent it, even though some honorable people were on that side. Both sides are anathema to the conservative, because both were built on the assumption that government had the right to violently violate the rights of individuals (slaves and secessionists respectively). If either side had been following the Constitution, there would have been no war.

That's an understatement. You can't change the past, but sure as shooting, we can influence the future.

1863 : Abraham Lincoln abolishes sleevery Using the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution, the right to bare arms.
