How long is your summer? (Summer is defined as temperatures during the day at 80 or above)

Also, how do you heat your homes? Do you use nuclear or geothermal?

Welcome to FR

I think it was in 1963. We held a referendum in 1955 voting against it, but the politicians decided to do it anyway.

My father’s parents came from Sweden. My father was born in Boston. I used to write to my cousin, a girl, Britt-Marie. I lost touch with her and now I really regret it. I have absolutely no family on my mother’s side. Never lose your cousin’s mailing address. Welcome to FR.

They also have the Sedins, and a bunch of great D men.
Russians have the individual scoring stars, not quite as great D, but stellar goaltending.
Canada is as good as it gets but the (Sharks) top line has been flat lately. If the Swedes hang in its theirs to lose.

My picks: SWE - gold
RUS - slver
CDN - bronze

I wish we did. I guess IKEA does export a lot of them though. I think I read somewhere that it’s the largest food related export industry in Sweden.

Well, he is a really eloquent speaker so he’d definitely have my vote. Though I guess that doesn’t help him much.

Welcome to Free Republic! Our local library has started carrying Nordic novelists and I really like the Swedish style of fiction-writing. I'm reading Ake Edwardson's Death Angels right now, anxiously awaiting Asa Larsson and Helene Tursten's latest books.

Is lutefisk really codfish soaked in lye?

Yes.

Some. however, would argue it's soaked in something stronger....Strontium 90, perhaps...

Lutefisk, BTW, is of Norwegian origin. It first appeared around the time of the demise of the Swedish empire, and I don't think that was a coincidence!
