I love asking members of the JFK fan club what exactly he ever did. They never mention his cutting of taxes but often try to give him credit for handling the Cuban Missile Crisis. It’s fun pointing out that if he hadn’t shown such weakness during the Bay of Pigs fiasco, the Soviets would never have dared to put missiles in Cuba

It’s not what he did its like the song says “didn’t you love the things that he stood for?” (Wonder if somebody paid off Neil Diamond?)

Add to that the continuing myth that the Soviets removed the missiles because of the blockade and Kennedy ordering Defcon 2. The real reason was Castro and Guevara looking to take control of the missiles and launch them, starting WW3. Kruschev reconsidered the missiles in Cuba, and got them out.
