OK. So which female artists NOT associated with duo, group etc would make your top 10. Here's mine..in no particular order
She was hot, too.
Yes!
Don’t forget Susan Boyle
"What gives, cue ball? I'm looking at you, I'm thinking: fourteen in the side pocket! "
Artists mentioned on this thread range from Yma Sumac and Edith Piaf to Joan Baez and Grace Slick. Shows that conservatives have wide-ranging tastes in music and are not cultural Philistines, as the MSM would have everyone believe.
It’s always hard to stop at the required number. Here are some more:
Mary Wells
Irma Thomas
Diane Schuur
Sonya Isaacs - she records solo now
Queen Ida - not a great voice, but she sure gives that accordion a workout and has amazing energy and stage presence.
Fantastic!
Thanks!
As I have read through the posts I keep nodding my head and saying "Oh yeah! I LOVE her!" It's nice to see the diversity of artists and there haven't been any bad choices that I have seen so far.
One of the names that I have yet to see (I may have missed it) is Dinah Shore and another would be Pearl Bailey. A couple that I can't believe I let off my list were Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn.
Yup, I get to hear her every day.
I don’t blame you. Yoko Ono is defintely abuse.
Last night on Bet Honor Show, Jennifer Hudson joined the pantheon of singers with this outstanding rendition of I Will Always Love You.
Ironically she came from American Idol where they say Don't sing Whitney, Stevie or Michael because it will show your shortcomings. Last night she nailed it. Added to her performance of I'm Gonna Love You from Dreamgirls, it's clear she has the pipes to be near the top.

Ella Fitzgerald, Whitney Houston, ...
FMCDH(BITS)
Annie HASLAM.....Forgot about her...I have all the Renaissance "albums"...at the time, they were pretty "Renaissance" with their style.

Linda Ronstadt (younger version)?
I got a new huge plasma and a great speaker system (ZVOX) recently and got stuck on the grammys the other night (which I've never watched in my life) due to the sight and sound - some real crazy people in that room! I guess a lot of the artsy crowd are operating on another planet... but what talent!
As far as vocals go, Karen Carpenter could out-sing anyone. I defy someone to find a better vocalist.

LOL. And what shall we use for the objective measure? Range? Others have better. Intonation? Will blue notes be acceptable? Song choice?
I assume this is limited to pop or rock? Otherwise, no top solo women list could be complete without Patsy Cline.

And if you throw the lady blues and jazz singers into the mix, even Patsy has a hard time making the top 5.
Today’s crop of pop artists are a bunch of pitch correction software users. Does no one wonder why they NEVER miss a note? Humans just aren’t that good.
