Howard Zinn, an author, teacher and political activist whose leftist "A People's History of the United States" sold a million copies and became an alternative to mainstream texts and a favorite of such celebrities as Bruce Springsteen and Ben Affleck, died Wednesday. He was 87.
Zinn died of a heart attack in Santa Monica, Calif., daughter Myla Kabat-Zinn said. The historian was a resident of Auburndale, Mass.
Published in 1980 with little promotion and a first printing of 5,000, "A People's History" was fittingly a people's best-seller, attracting a wide audience through word of mouth and reaching 1 million sales in 2003. Although Zinn was writing for a general readership, his book was taught in high schools and colleges throughout the country, and numerous companion editions were published, including "Voices of a People's History," a volume for young people and a graphic novel

Good riddance.
Your lies turned many foolish people against the greatest nation in the history of civilization.
What is it Mark Twain said? “I didn’t know he had died, but I approve”?
Now he can join his drinking buddy Ted Kennedy in hell.
The only reason this POS book sold more than a million copies was if you take an American history course the professor will make you buy it. I remember going to college and visiting my buddies and seeing this book in their room. I am not ashamed to admit I never took an US history course in college because I knew that class would be American bashing BS and I could learn more on my own.
Good news! Too bad he lived so long.
More pernicious even than his “People’s History” has been the barrage of endorsements by Zinn of other leftist books touted on covers and reviews. Somehow this fool became an arbiter of historiography and awards.
So...at the risk of looking like an idiot, why is this guy getting such a bad rap?
Damon in shrink's office: "Great book collection, but they're all the wrong books".
Shrink: "Really?"
Damon: "Yeah really"
Shrink: "What are the right books?"
Damon: "Well, the Peoples' History of the United States. That book will knock your socks off."
Had a liberal friend say that last line verbatim to me shortly after the film came out. I pulled from a scene in another part of the movie, and asked him if all his quotes were from movies....hehe.
The best kind of Commie. The deceased kind.
In the audio book, Matt Damon is the guy reading. Is that interesting or what?
He was a leftist academic that wrote the new left's favorite single volumn American History text putting the spin just where Kerry, Fonda, and all the new left wanted it.
A fiction writer that found a better gig.
A sample:
Arawak men and women, naked, tawny, and full of wonder, emerged from their villages onto the island’s beaches and swam out to get a closer look at the strange big boat. When Columbus and his sailors came ashore, carrying swords, speaking oddly, the Arawaks ran to greet them
He was a hardcore Marxist who wrote a US history book. It is the “bible” to the likes of Oliver Stone, James Cameron, and every moonbat leftist. Imagine the plot of Avatar for every incident in US history including World War II; FDR was a tool of the military-indistrial complex. He published book in 1980 as the leftist from the 1960s was taking over academia so it was the perfect book for the new wave of Marxist history professors that took over the universities.
great book title. I must buy :-).
Hating the USA and our culture since long before it was cool.
So long, loser.
Our broken healthcare system takes another life!
When will we nationalize healthcare!
Only then will people stop dying....
