Back in the 80s Minolta was making an excellent series of 35mm cameras they called the Maxxum. Minolta is gone from the camera business now, but Sony bought the camera designs and carried on. The Maxxum lenses fit and function perfectly on Sony DSLRs and are a source of high quality lenses at great prices.
I've had a 70-210 f4 Minolta "Beercan" for a while and I just picked up a 75-300 "Big Beercan" for some more reach. They are better than my newer "kit" lenses. They are rugged, you could probably drive tent stakes with them, but I don't mind some extra weight. They got the beercan label because they are about the size of a 16 oz. beercan.
I caught this male Osprey on my first trip out with the 75-300.
You take the most fantastic photos!
He looks very Regal!
They are the Bald Eagles little cousins and act like royalty!
The new Sony lenses are housed in plastic, the Minoltas have cast alloy housings. The 75-300 weighs about 30 oz, they aren't lightweights.
Thanks, SS. What a noble raptor. I used to have a Minolta circa 1980’s. My ex wife traded it in for a Nikon then gave the Nikon to her parents. Go figure. I need to learn about modern digital cameras and accesories. I know nothing.
Any chance of us getting to see some of the photos?
Wonderful photos! Is he sitting on a highway or bridge railing?
Wow! I love it!
If you’ve ever had a chance to ride over the Lake Jessup bridge on the 417 you’ll see at least a dozen or so perched on the lights. Unfortunately you can’t slow down to catch a picture. Guess a boat would be better and a boat bigger than the 15,000 estimated gators in that lake.
Thanks for the beautiful pictures as always!
