Interestingly, our FR discussion of Wilcox's article has been picked up and linked by today's . Who'd a thunk it?
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Oops! ~ That should have read:
"Interestingly, our FR discussion of Wilcox's article has been picked up and linked by today's "MacSurfer Headline News". Who'd a thunk it?"
A glossy screen (as pictured) and relaxing on the beach don't really go together very well.
Can we stop talking about Joe Wilcox, please? He’s a professional troll.
"Sneak peaks" instead of "sneak peeks"?
A peak is a point, like a mountain top.
A peek is a sneaky, furtive glance at something.
You know the pre-announcement hype has gone completely over the top, when whole articles are written and posted (and read and commented upon!) that are nothing but arguments with other commentators about vaporware. Geez.
I look forward to the Apple tablet, assuming there is one in the works. But my God, the anticipatory stuff is making me crazy.
So yeah, let's ignore Joe Wilcox. Let's also ignore all the rest. If Apple announces something, we'll all get to see it, right?
Besides, I don't plan to buy the first-gen of anything ever again. Let 'em fix the first round of bugs. The early bird may get the worm, but the SECOND mouse gets the cheese.
If they could make a Table like that, but that folds up and fits in a back pocket... now that would be useful.
A netbook type laptop will protect its 10.1” LCD but this Apple tablet LCD is unprotected. And its prolly a more expensive kind of LCD. Just waiting to get scuffed up and get greasy fingerprints all over it. Apple may put lots of interesting features into this that would be better done in a netbook format. Apple can do this themselves and maybe they will or maybe the hacker fanbois will do it and demo the proto-types.
If I were in the Jesse Jobs gang I would put out a naked 10” tablet and an Apple 10” netbook w exact same features and see which way the market voted

That’s a pretty sad artist’s concept. He didn’t even try, just blew-up an iPhone. I don’t know what it’s going to look like, but it’s not going to look like that. I just can’t see Ive doing it.
That's why few people think Apple will come out with "just another tablet." Jobs wouldn't get into the market if he didn't think he could make a game-changer.
First touch screens are finger print magnets and Apple can not change that.
There is the oleophobic coating on the new iPhones. It'll probably make it into this.
The iPhone 3Gs is oleophobic... and doesn't smudge or take fingerprints any where nearly as badly as the original or 3G do. I am sure the tablet will have the same oleophobic coating on it as the 3Gs has.
The real issues i whether the software will be there for some of the uses I can envision. My doctor’s office has gone totally digital and a tablet would be a lot easier to carry around - if it was sturdy enough. Ditto for my internet cable repairman.
So yeah, let's ignore Joe Wilcox. Let's also ignore all the rest.

Spoken like a true conservative.Journalism is all about the fog of current events (which is the general case of which the "fog of war" is an excruciating example). In politics, the fog of current events is a distraction. In technology, that same fog is merely amusing, provided that you don't try to make a living betting on tech stocks.
Has anyone pointed out that the new aluminum Mac laptop cases may have been an offshoot of preparations for a tablet computer? I can imagine that making a 10” tablet rigid and strong enough to take abuse would require exceptional materials and design - why use it only on the tablet?
This also begs the question as to what did delay the tablet, since it should have been out before the holiday shopping season? Might it be the “new” coating that is now available on the IPhone screen required units that would have otherwise been ready to go be sent back to have this coating applied? Possibly. Other sources are saying that the solid state storage devices weren’t available in quantity. One insider told me that they are having issues with the OLED screens - which may now be held back until a late 2010 update.
I guess we’ll all know in a couple of weeks.
