Eat Chocolate Without Gaining Weight

It's officially 2010 and we want it to be a healthy year. Chocolate is one of those treats that many people crave, and their weight suffers because of it. No more. Try these chocolate treats that won't add on pounds. Instead of going for chocolate substitutes, we recommend the real deal.

Amy Brightfield of Woman's Day has compiled her favorite chocolate snacks, and she's definitely on the mark. Dark chocolate, as she points out, is much better than a lollipop or salt water taffy (or Nerds Rope, or jelly beans...you get the point), and chocolate containing over 60% cacao also happens to be lower in calories.

Brightfield's recommendations include:

Dove Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate Singles - Have a real friend hide the rest if you buy the bigger bar, or get the smaller version at 190 calories for the whole thing. 71% cacao.

Raisinets - Fruit and nut done right, especially if you split the small bag of dark chocolate ones.

Green & Blacks Organic Chocolate - some of the tastiest, highest quality dark chocolate out there. You can get a 70% cacao bar that weighs in at 190 calories.

See’s must be a west coast thing - I haven’t seen them here. I used to love one in particular whose name I’ve forgotten.

That’s good to know.

I eat my semi-sweet chocolate drops with Blue Bell Homeade ice cream topped with cashews.

Oh, they are all over and in many places throughout the US with a long tradition. There are better "upper end" chocolates to be found, but they have some excellent candies. See here:

I busted up laughing when I found that.

I thought you would like that. :-)

Steal away, my dear — it’s a good one.

I read this last night and my Mentor at C/A told me to resist posting a reply until I have my addiction under control because you are never cured, you are Forever Recovering.

Locked in the trunk of my First Wife’s car are 8 Carmel/Chocolate Apples and she has the only key. She says they are for people who have wronged her in the past year. She says chocolate will lead to extreme mental distress as witnessed by my breaking into Partick’s Candy here in Eureka in the middle of the night a few years ago for their dark chocolate covered Macadamia Nuts...
