The photo, dubbed 'Partners' was taken by photographer Bragi J. Ingibergsson on a Canon EOS 5D camera in Hafnarfjördur in Iceland. Judges praised Mr Ingibergsson's "vision and perseverance to give an ordinary scene significance and a sense of wildness". As well as winning the Planet Earth category, he also walked away with the overall prize as the judges commended the shot's "simple and quiet nature".

Digital photography is a lot of fun because its so versatile. I shot that one with just the light from the window and used a 1600 ISO setting to let it be a bit grainy.

It is kind of a nice shot, but I have the strange feeling I’ll be seeing it on black velvet soon.

Or the side of a van.

LOL. If the horses are rockin'....

How harsh was the window light? Did you have to diffuse it in any way? Keeping the dog in position must have been a challenge. Love the catch light in his eye.

The photo is not of “wild” horses but Icelandic horses with a winter coat ( not unlike Shetlands).

Had to go back and look at my RAW data. The light was fairly harsh on the side toward the window so I metered it from there and let the dark side be very dark.

1/200s @ f/5.6 ISO 1600 the focal length was 55 millimeters

Ah, yes, I’ve always had a weakness for The Classics: Elvis in Hawaii in his white sequined jumpsuit. Dogs playing poker. Jesus in his bathrobe. Those Mexican kids with the huge, sad watery eyes. Timeless.
