Notre Dame has settled on Brian Kelly as the man who can restore its faded glory, just as he turned Cincinnati into a national title contender.
Just 10 days after Charlie Weis was fired, it's up to Kelly to revive the fortunes of a team that just completed the worst decade of football in the history of the storied program with a 70-52 record and three losing seasons.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen first reported Kelly would take over in South Bend.

It speaks to the character of kelly ... didn’t even have the balls to tell his players. They found out later after a banquet held for them. The offensive coordinator will coach them New Years Eve.
But then Kelly, the son of an ultra liberal politician knows the dirbag political route. No .. I do not deny what he did in Cincy. He brought the bearcats to a place that they have never been before. Nor do I hold ill will to one that betters him self professionally .. it is just a fact of life in college sports.
But as a person ... kelly is a stinking liberal clueless azzhole ... ND deserves him. I hope they go 3 and 9 the next 5 years.
Not to defend Kelly too much, as I know very little about the person, but consider this:
ND is one of the top coaching jobs in the country, a tough one to turn down for any coach.
They offered him the job at this time of year, probably telling Kelly if he delayed, they would go elsewhere.
I would blame ND as much as Kelly.
As I pointed out ... I didn’t/don’t care if Kelly goes to ND or anywhere else. But he lied. Even Lied to the very kids who took him undefeated even up through the banquet last night. Told them last night he wasn’t going.
ND is NOT a top job in college coaches, only in marketing minds. They haven’t done anything since 88.
small small small man. typical Liberal dirtbag. Small small school of ultra liberals posing as religious ... the two deserve each other
Kelly is a LOSER.
At the very least he should have been man enough to stand by his team and see them through the bowl game. He should have told Notre Dame that he would be the coach and that they would simply have to wait until the bowl game was finished.
NO INTEGRITY!
Weis was a a big bust as a head coach but he could be a vast improvement over Offensive Coordinator Ron Turner if the Bears want him.
I’ve read that his departure was ‘inevitable’.
I hope he plays a game at Cincy. And I hope Rich Rodriguez and Michigan one day before he’s fired plays @West Virginia too. Imagine the boos.
“whereupon Mrs. Meyer will allow Urban to move to South Bend.”
:D. How come he turned them down the first time and went to Florida? I’m not sure he wants that job.
