Let's see you do that on the old Type III 'pancake' engine. Been there, done that. In sub-zero temps. They don't want to go on easily.

That’s pretty clever, especially if you can charge someone $130 plus parts to do it.

Great post.

Fun to watch but why. The removed belt was working fine.

I wonder if that would work on a Poesche 911 as well....
It would have the added glamour of the fan spinning.

I’ve done this with my VW, although I cut the old belt off and set up the belt before cranking the motor. I like my fingers, and my mom harped on me so much about safety while growing up that I have a tragedy movie inside my head every time I get close to doing something stupid.

I can see someone getting slapped upside the head by a thrown screwdriver now.

I remember the first time my dad and I tried to change the fan belt on our I/O boat motor. Sat and looked and scratched our heads and couldn’t figure out how to get it on without undoing the motor mounts.

We called the mechanic and said “Don’t laugh, but we can’t figure out how to do this without taking off a motor mount!”

The mechanic laughed right back “You can’t!”.

I had a 57. I still miss that little car. I had 9.15 tires on it and it would go anywhere. It had 330,000 miles on it when I sold it.
