Moments after pulling out of his driveway in the middle of the night, Tiger Woods drove his SUV over a fire hydrant and into a tree, causing injuries that sent him to the hospital to be treated.
The investigation of that mysterious crash has moved much more slowly.
Woods added to the suspense Saturday when for the second straight day, the world's No.1 golfer was unavailable to speak to the Florida Highway Patrol. State troopers are looking for answers about the accident in which the Windermere police chief said Woods' wife, Elin, used a golf club to smash out a rear window and help him get out.
Police first went to his $2.4 million house inside the gates of Isleworth on Friday, only for Woods' wife to ask if they could return the next day because he was sleeping.
As they headed to Woods' house Saturday afternoon, FHP dispatch put through a phone call to troopers from Woods' agent, informing them that Woods and his wife would be unavailable to talk until Sunday.
"I don't know what was said," Sgt. Kim Montes, the patrol spokeswoman, said Saturday. "I mean, (Friday) we understood, and that's kind of normal. It is unusual that we haven't gotten a statement. This just delays us to getting closer to the completion of the investigation."
Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, did not respond to a text message asking why Woods was unavailable.
Sunday could deliver two bits of information - what Woods has to say about the accident or perhaps the 911 tapes that FHP said it would release once authorities have reviewed the call.

The silence has only fueled speculation of what happened, why Woods left the house at that hour, where he was going....

I didn't buy her "rescue" story using the golf club to smash a window. She probably smashed it as he was attempting to pull away. The evidence that the Escalade is all smashed up on the hood is enough for the police to see she attacked Tiger again once he was inside the car, and that she scratched and hit him when he was in the house previously.
In Florida, is the law that the police have to press domestic assault charges, even if the spouse does not want them pursued. That is what all the delay is about.
Bet on it.
I bet you watch all the soap operas every day too.
There’s never an obligation to talk to the police, and in most circumstances there’s no advantage. Don’t ask me, ask your lawyer.
I think you nailed it
Then, when the police arrived the second time, to basically shoo them off again.
Incredible.
Woods better watch it. The public will forgive his adultery - that is just the way our society is today. They will not forgive obstruction of a police investigation, or lying to the cops.
A smart lawyer will demand they say nothing more to the police.
I bet you comment on FR threads all day, and then deny it.
I am still waiting for tv movie.
Who cares? Why is this any of our business? They may have some problems, but I am certain they paid their bills. If the Woods are smart, they will tell the media to go pound sand.
True conservatives might. This isn’t tracking the next KSM to prevent the destruction of a major city. A husband and wife had a fight.
True - she already changed her story at least once.
I believe Skypilot has it just about right as that was the conclusion here as well.
And if it were you or I, we’d still be sitting in a small interogation room down at the cop shop.
This isn't Joe and Mabel down the street throwing salt shakers at each other at 2 am, and the cops showing up.
It is a front page news story (and front page on Drudge), this is the world's richest athlete, who has earned $100 playing golf, but has also earned an estimated $1 Billion from endorsements and business deals.
It now involves possible charges against his wife, and/or lying to investigators.
I would say that qualifies as news.
indy, if a crime happened then it’s by definition a public matter, and becomes the public’s business. Maybe nobody cares, but that’s not to say it’s not the public’s business. All matters of criminal law are the public’s business.
I was amused a while back when Spitzer prefaced his famous press conference with “I want to briefly address a private matter.’ Even a first year law student knows that matters of criminal law are not a ‘private matter.’
I think it is pretty obvious that Tiger Woods, his wife, his lawyer, his agent, and his handlers are delaying talking to the police to get their “story” straight.

And for the wounds to heal better. It was reported
that if the cops thought his bruises appeared to be
from an assault, an arrest could happen immediately.
Exactly. It’s amazing they’re letting them get away with this obfuscation. Jeez. He screwed up, she flipped out. It happens. It’s not rocket science, and nobody died. Fess up now, and she’ll probably have to do some community service. Big frippin’ deal. But keep dodging the cops and you’re looking for some big time trouble.
That is the law in Florida, as it is in many other states. The responding officers don't have any choice. An arrest must be made. I find it VERY difficult to believe that not a single officer who was on the scene early Friday morning didn't suspect a DV situation then. FHP has some explaining to do, IMHO.
Well, you're right about that.
If I asked my lawyer, then he would be outraged Woods is being asked these questions. He would find them lewd, lascivious, salacious, and outrageous.
No really, it isn’t news. Tiger has no political power to affect our lives. They sure aren’t the first couple to get in a knock down drag out allegedly over infidelity. It is sad. Maybe they do really love each other. I would like to see them work it out and save their family.
But if the media has their way, there will be no hope. Maybe they would like to forgive each other.
Why is it that we all feel we have to know what goes on in the lives of others?
Knowing one way or the other about the Woods family is not going to change my life one bit.
