Summit Entertainment just announced its New Moon debuted with $26.27M in 12:01AM screenings from 3,514 theaters. That sets a new midnight opening record, smashing The Dark Knight's $18.4M on July 18, 2008, and Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince's $22.2M on July 15, 2009. (Summit's re-release of Twilight Thursday night in 2,057 dates made $1.3M.) Meanwhile, Fandango tells me that New Moon is trending to sell more than 10 tickets per second on the site throughout the course of today.

I like this line: "Filmgoers are also said to include boys and men, but to a much lesser extent."

The boys were forced to go because their sister went with mom and dad could not watch him. The men went because their daughter demanded it or they were dragged to the theatre by their gf or spouse. Of course you might have some men going because they belong to an alternative lifestyle group.

It was teenage girls going to see Titanic dozens of times that made it the biggest box office until then.

I grew up in the 80s, so I’d have to see “New Moon” on Monday.

I went to see “The Damned United” last night and at 7 PM the line for the midnight show was already around the block.

That’s how I ended up seeing the first one. The Mrs. and Mother-in-law got the DVD in time for one of our holiday dinners.

For my 12 year old daughter’s birthday, my wife and I are taking her and five of her friends to the 11:15 pm showing tonight. I expect the percentage of men at the movie tonight will be about the same as when I took my daughter to see the Powerpuff Girls a few years ago...

My wife loves the books and is making me go. She also made me go to the first one.

It was very educational though. For many years I that vampires avoided the sun because they would burst into flames. Little did I know that the truth is they avoid it because they look ridiculous when exposed to it. They sparkle like someone Bedazzled them.

If only there was half the zeal these kids show toward this movie in the direction of education and church, we might have quite a different country today......sad.

dude, when you give your ticket to the usher make sure you give them your man-card to tear up as well. i've heard the old 'my wife is making me go' line too many times.

what does the MP stand for? are they initials or something else?

LOL! My wife liked the first one, and rented it last night to get warmed up to go see the New Moon this weekend.

When the vampire went into the sun to show his girlfriend why they can’t go into the sunlight, I was thinking he was going to be a badass monster... NOPE! He looked like someone had dumped glitter all over his face.

The movie wasn’t bad, but I can’t think of to many vampire movies that make me laugh. This one is a teenage chic flick.

Ick. The sooner this phase passes the better, IMO. I’m tired of hearing about it.

Military Police. I came home and watched Armageddon to counteract the effects. I think I am OK.
