What do you say to a graduate in philosphy when he knocks on your door?

“thanks for the pizza, keep the change.”

note to self -DOOR!

He actually should have been at Fort Hood by Friday. Then it wouldn’t have been a problem for him to attend yesterday’s ceremony in Germany. I don’t think he had it on his schedule even before the massacre happened. He planned to send hillary.

Here in the US, our perspective on EU perceptions of Obama is limited to the press accounts and the statements of EU member state officials. The press accounts out of Britain seem much more even handed than those in the US, where everything is dumbed down and spun in the papers but I have no idea what the common opinion of the "man on the street" towards Obama is. I suspect it is still highly complimentary but that's just my guess.

Being from the UK, can you provide some insights into that? I recognize that would be opion based and anecdotal, but I'm very interested.

I agree, the Torygraph seems to be getting it’s spine back.

Pip,pip!

He should have been in Texas Thursday night. No one would have faulted him for missing the memorial if he had stopped everything to comfort the families and the wounded instead of giving a half-assed mention of the murders during an Indian suck-up session.

Obama is in China - not because he wouldn’t like to celebrate old victories - but because he has to react on todays monetary defeat.

Likely he’s got to explain how exactly he’s planning to make generations of US citizens to work their debt off.

I would say your guess is spot-on.

More than anything else Obama’s dream of universal healthcare resonates with the man on the street. Nearly everyone I know is fiercely proud of the NHS and the same goes for other EU countries who crow that their system is better than ours etc.

This is the nub that makes us civilized and America just rich.

There is more to it than that but I think this is the defining issue.

Of course not everyone thinks like that (I for one). The best guy in the UK is David Hannan (the hope of the true right wing) who might yet be able to touch the minds and hearts of the common man if history gives him a chance. He is a plain man with no-nonsense words and ripped Brown to bits in the European Parliament. He is the new Thatcher. But as yet he needs a platform. try this and be amazed (if you haven't seen him before) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94lW6Y4tBXs
